Dear parents, AP students are required to attend one of the following AP testing pre-registration sessions which will be held in Corcoran Theater.The purpose of the meeting is to pre-label all testing bubble sheets prior to the AP exam date. April 17 pre-registration time has been changed for students to attend the registration in the morning rather than afterschool. Please review the final AP pre-registration meeting times and dates:

Attention ALL Lancer sports fans: Come celebrate with us as we recognize several of our senior student-athletes that will be playing their sport in college next year. Our spring Athletic Commitment Celebration is today, Wednesday, April 16 at 2:45 p.m. in the Hall of Fame room. All are welcome!  Go Lancers!

The first AP testing pre-registration session will be held today, Wednesday, April 16, from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in Corcoran Theater.

FASHION-IN-ACTION CLUB members - We will be meeting today after school in the Learning Lab. Our guest speakers will be from the U of A “TREND” Fashion Club. Felicia Frontain, Salpointe alum from Class of ’76, is the Undergraduate/Internship Senior Coordinator at the Norton School of Retailing and Consumer Sciences. Refreshments will be served!

FOOTBALL PLAYERS: Tryouts for Varsity and JV begin Monday May 5, be downstairs at 4:00 PM. You must sign up for Fundamentals Camp (April 26) at www.lfbcamps.com.

Awards Night

Dear Students and Parents, Invitations have been sent via Salpointe student email accounts (and parent emails) to those students who will be receiving an award at Salpointe’s Awards Night ceremony on Monday, April 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Please check your student email accounts and parent emails to see if you received an invitation.

Counseling

Important Deadline for Seniors: Thursday, April 17 is the last day for seniors to bring in copies of college acceptances and academic scholarships for every college to which you applied - not just the one you will attend. We track this information and it will also be used in our graduation program. No exceptions. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Ossowski in the Counseling Office.

Seniors: Pima Community College is accepting applications for a variety of scholarships through its scholarship site at https://pima.starsscholarshipsonline.com/STARS/default.aspx. There are scholarships for students studying criminal justice, real estate, fine arts, digital arts, accounting, business, engineering, computer-aided drafting, machine tool technology, architecture, landscape architecture and more. There are also scholarships for students who plan to transfer to UA, for Hispanic students, and for students whose parent was killed in the line of duty in any branch of the U.S. military or first responder. Deadlines are coming up quickly, so apply now!

The Tutoring Club (Swan & Sunrise) is having an SAT test preparation workshop on April 26 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. Cost is $119. Call 299-8899 or send an email to katy@tutoringclubfoothills.com to reserve a spot.

Dance

“Messages”…. They are everywhere!  You text them, you give them by crossing your arms or looking away, you leave them on your phone.  The Salpointe Dance Studio will be presenting their Spring Dance Show called “MESSAGES” on Friday April 25 and Saturday April 26 at 7:00 p.m. in Corcoran Theater. Teachers, Staff, and Students are FREE with ID and Adults are only $5. Tickets sold only at the door. Auditions: for anyone wanting to skip Beginning Dance Class and enter into Intermediate-Advanced Dance, they must audition after school Monday April 28 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in the Dance Room # 20.  This is for eighth graders through future seniors. The Library will be closing for the remainder of the school year today, Wednesday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m. The Library will open in its temporary location in the Hall of Fame room after the Easter break.

Salpointe Ambassador Leaders (S.A.L.) is a student leadership program for all qualified rising sophomore, junior and senior Salpointe students.To be accepted into the S.A.L. program, students must have a 3.0 or higher G.P.A., demonstrate good character and Lancer Values, and display active leadership experiences. Students will complete an online application and interview process for a position on the S.A.L. team. Students will find the application on the school website – in the Campus Life section or use this link

Interviews for a position on S.A.L. will take place after school on April 30, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in our Counseling Center. Students who are accepted on the S.A.L. team will be notified May 6, 2014.  S.A.L. students will be assigned to specific promotion of events, programs, fundraising, school recruitment and community outreach activities and will have the opportunity to interact and network with school faculty, community members and fellow students in order to promote all school campus events. Kairos 237, your G1 Mass is Tuesday, 4/15/14, in the school Chapel at 7:40 a.m.  Your sandwich making will also take place after school on senior patio.  You may drop off your sandwich making supplies in Campus Ministry or you may bring them to Mass where they will be collected.         

Tuesday Tutoring will take place this afternoon after school in the Cafeteria until 5:30 p.m.

Athletics

Attention ALL student-athletes: The athletic physical forms for the 2014-2015 school year are on the Salpointe web site under Athletics.  Physicals must be completed after March 1, 2014 to be valid for next year. Remember, the AIA Brainbook course only has to be completed once in your high school years, whereas the Impact Test is required every other year. The AIA requires a new physical each year in order to participate in interscholastic sports. If you have any questions please stop by the Athletic Office in room 412. Thank you.

Counseling

Junior Athletes:  Applications are now being accepted for the eliteNFL-Wharton Prep Leadership Program, a collaboration between the National Football League and the prestigious Wharton School of Business at Ivy-League University of Pennsylvania. This is a selective leadership and achievement recognition program for 36 elite male and female high school student-athletes. The program, June 16-19, recognizes the success of the invitees and provides participants with 3 days of specific leadership training and development programming. The rigorous coursework, breakout groups and panels specifically designed by The Wharton School will provide a formal foundation of leadership training for the next generation of leaders.  The Leadership Program is for a select group of 36 top rising senior high-school student-athletes. Participants will attend presentations by outstanding faculty and speakers from collegiate athletics, broadcast executives, league and brand marketers. They will also learn about business disciplines such as management, negotiation, and marketing as they explore career opportunities in the business of sports. Grades and standardized testing scores, letters of recommendation, student essays and athletic achievement records will be considered. Deadline is April 25, 2014. National Volunteer Week April 6-12, 2014
As we come to a close on volunteer week, the teachers, staff and students would like to thank the literally hundreds of volunteers who selflessly give of their time and talents for the betterment of the Salpointe community. Salpointe could not accomplish as much as it does without the commitment of our faithful volunteers; for this we are truly grateful!

Children’s uniforms needed for local non-profit: TMM Family Services is a 40 year old local non-profit that offers several programs to the community including fostering fifty-three children removed from the home by CPS, transitional housing for single moms and their children, and six campuses of low-income housing. An additional program that TMM offers is the Community Closet (located at the ReStore), the largest distributor of free clothing to our community’s most needy through a voucher program. TMM strives to give their clients access to clothing for job interviews, employment, and school in hopes that these individuals can gain education and employment to become successful and self-sufficient. Events for Today

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered today, Friday, April 11 in the school chapel for all students who are interested in receiving this sacrament. It will be offered during both lunch periods. Lent is a traditional time in which many Catholics partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If you have any questions or would like to set up a separate time please contact Campus Ministry.

Athletics

Attention ALL senior student-athletes: Have you committed to playing your sport in college next year and were not part of the February Athletic Commitment Celebration? We would like for you to be a part of our next celebration on Wednesday April 16 at 2:45 p.m. in the Hall of Fame room. Please stop by the Athletic Office in room 412 for an invitation. Thank you.

Attention ALL student-athletes: The athletic physical forms for the 2014-2015 school year are on the Salpointe web site under Athletics. Physicals must be completed after March 1, 2014 to be valid for next year. Remember, the AIA Brainbook course only has to be completed once in your high school years, whereas the Impact Test is required every other year.  The AIA requires a new physical each year in order to participate in interscholastic sports.  If you have any questions please stop by the Athletic Office in room 412. Applications are now being accepted for the Salpointe Ambassador Leader Program – see below:
Salpointe Ambassador Leaders (S.A.L.) is a student leadership program for all qualified rising sophomore, junior and senior Salpointe students. To be accepted into the S.A.L. program, students must have a 3.0 or higher G.P.A., demonstrate good character and Lancer Values, and display active leadership experiences. Students will complete an online application and interview process for a position on the S.A.L. team. Students will find the application on the school website – in the Campus Life section or use this link: http://tinyurl.com/schs-sal14.  Students need to complete the application process and teacher recommendations by April 17, 2014. Interviews for a position on S.A.L. will take place after school on April 30, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. in our Counseling Center. Students who are accepted on the S.A.L. team will be notified May 6, 2014.  S.A.L. students will be assigned to specific promotion of events, programs, fundraising, school recruitment and community outreach activities and will have the opportunity to interact and network with school faculty, community members and fellow students in order to promote all school campus events. Monday and Tuesday from 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM and Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM. On Fridays the Learning Lab will be open from 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM. Open both lunches every day.
The Library
will open at 7:30 AM daily and close at 5:00 PM Monday – Thursday. The Library will close at 3:30 PM on Fridays.
The Spirit Store will be open first and second lunch and for 30 minutes after school. Online orders will continue to be fulfilled.
Tuesday Tutoring
will be held after school in the Cafeteria on Tuesdays.
The Writer’s Corner in Room 703
is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school until 4:30 PM.

THE LADY LANCER TEA will be here shortly -Sunday, April 27 at Skyline Country Club. You should have received your Invitation to this wonderful event in the mail so please make sure it’s on your calendar!  But right now we need a little help with donations for our awesome “Bag Raffle”: Gift cards for services like manicures, hair, eyelash services, and all things “girly” for our young ladies in attendance. Our theme this year is Downton Abbey - use your imagination; get creative! We appreciate your generosity in supporting this awesome event for our Lady Lancers and their guests. Senior Alumni Parents and Alumni Grandparents with graduating 2014 seniors – please note that the Alumni Senior Photo Shoot and Breakfast date is Thursday, April 24.  There was a wrong date on the letter that accompanied your invitation. Mark your calendars for Thursday, April 24 at 7:00 a.m. for the photo shoot and the breakfast. 

Dear parents, AP students are required to attend one of the following AP testing pre-registration sessions. The purpose of the meeting is to pre-label all testing bubble sheets prior to the AP exam date. April 17 pre-registration time has been changed for students to attend the registration in the morning rather than afterschool. Please review the final AP pre-registration meeting times and dates:

April 16- 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
April 17- 7:15 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
April 22- 7:15 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.

Counseling

Seniors interested in learning more about options at Pima College should plan to meet with the PCC advisors who will be on our campus on Tuesday, April 15 at 1:45 p.m. Please sign up in advance through your Naviance account. You can also find some good handouts on the steps to attending PCC, and a great handout on occupational and certificate programs available at the five PCC campuses. Seniors who plan to attend ASU: The ASU Old Pueblo Alumni Chapter is accepting applications for their $1000 scholarship. Minimum GPA 3.0. Must be AZ resident. You will need an official transcript, copy of SAT or ACT scores and two letters of recommendation from teachers. Deadline for application and documents to arrive in Tempe is April 15. Details and application at https://scholarships.asu.edu/scholarship/1737. Note: Do not apply if you already have a substantial scholarship.

Seniors: Please remember to notify the colleges you will not attend on or before Thursday, May 1.  Use our Cancellation Form to notify them. You can stop by the Counseling Center to pick up this form, or find it on the SCHS website at:  http://www.salpointe.org/Document.Doc?id=1336.

Junior Athletes:  Applications are now being accepted for the eliteNFL-Wharton Prep Leadership Program, a collaboration between the National Football League and the prestigious Wharton School of Business at Ivy-League University of Pennsylvania. This is a selective leadership and achievement recognition program for 36 elite male and female high school student-athletes. The program, June 16-19, recognizes the success of the invitees and provides participants with 3 days of specific leadership training and development programming. The rigorous coursework, breakout groups and panels specifically designed by The Wharton School will provide a formal foundation of leadership training for the next generation of leaders.  The Leadership Program is for a select group of 36 top rising senior high-school student-athletes. Participants will attend presentations by outstanding faculty and speakers from collegiate athletics, broadcast executives, league and brand marketers. They will also learn about business disciplines such as management, negotiation, and marketing as they explore career opportunities in the business of sports. Grades and standardized testing scores, letters of recommendation, student essays and athletic achievement records will be considered. Deadline is April 25, 2014. The University of Arizona Honors Summer Academy is a summer program for motivated sophomores and juniors, June 15-July 11, 2014.  It allows students to live on campus in an Honors residence hall, take UA summer classes for college credit, participate in off-campus classes and field trips, have structured study time and form friendships with other high-ability students. A great way to experience college ahead of time! Scholarships are available.  Applications due April 15.
