Salpointe Weekly Peek - August 19, 2022

Happy Friday, Lancers!
This week’s prayer is from Mrs. Ardemis Martin, Salpointe Principal:
Dear Heavenly Father,
While we have faced challenges, you have been by our side every step of the way. May our faith in you continue to give us comfort and calm as we approach the new school year with our hearts filled with excitement and joy.
Bless over our students, may they build strong friendships, work towards academic goals and continue to make fond memories of their time at Salpointe.
And to our faculty, staff and administrative team, May you continue to remind us of our true mission of servant leadership. Give us strength to guide, educate and mentor our Lancers.
We thank you, praise you and adore you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Pray for us.
Note from President Kay Sullivan
Dear Lancer families,

It's another great day to be a Lancer! Yes, even with our challenges, we are embracing the essence of our Catholic Carmelite mission, charism and culture. We were delighted to start school for freshmen and transfers this past Monday and for all students on Tuesday. We are graced with the commitment and collaboration of 140 faculty and staff and with the energy of 1271 Lancers.

Our students are focused on classes, activities, lunch, etc. as they should be! Modular classrooms and new lockers should be installed in the next week or two, but in the meantime, we are fully functioning! Most classrooms are being utilized every hour of the day and teachers are traveling as needed to accommodate our students.
Note from Principal Ardemis Martin
Congratulations on the first week of school. As a new Lancer, I am beyond impressed with everyone on this campus, most importantly our students. The respect towards each other and their teachers is outstanding.

It is so wonderful to feel the energy our students bring to campus, and the smiles they have put on our teachers' faces. And may I say how wonderful they all look! Our dedication towards the dress code has really paid off. Please look for a clarification email from our deans coming out today.

Thank you for your support and confidence in Salpointe as we have navigated opening our doors just one week later than previously scheduled. I am beyond grateful for your warmth and feel blessed beyond belief to be your principal.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Martin

From the Health Office
Parents, if your child has a chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes, anaphylactic allergies, seizures or any other conditions, please update the health office with a current action plan from a physician. Action plans should be updated yearly. Please also add the condition on your child’s myPointe medical profile. This is very important as it is the first place we will look if your child has any health related situation.

Permission to treat:
The health office provides the following over the counter medications to students as needed with parental consent: Tylenol, Tums, Ibuprofen and cough drops. As of last year, under the direction of Bishop Edward Weisenburger, Salpointe no longer offers the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students interested in receiving sacraments should contact their parish to register for the preparation process there. If students are interested and not affiliated with a parish, they may register at St. Cyril Parish which is under the Carmelite leadership.
Registration for this year has continues through August 28, 2022. There will be an information meeting for parents and students on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at 11:30 am in Nicholson Hall. Families may call 520-795-1633 for information regarding registration for St. Cyril sacrament preparation program this year. The preparation meetings will take place on Sunday mornings, starting on September 11 and confirmation will be celebrated in November.

Again, is it highly encouraged for Catholic Salpointe students to receive sacraments at their home parishes.

Student Services

Service Program
Students are required to complete 10 hours of service each year. For freshmen, this will mean completing 40 hours of service before graduation. In order to help monitor student hours and communicate opportunities, Salpointe uses an online program called x2VOL. To find out more about the Service Program and x2VOL, please use this link to view information in the Parent/Student Handbook. Contact with any questions.
Tutoring will start on Wednesday, August 31 and run every week, Monday-Thursday. Tutoring in Math, English, Science, Theology and Spanish will begin each day 10 minutes after dismissal, and run for 80 minutes. Students should report to Foundation Hall to receive free tutoring services. Attendance for tutoring can be viewed through myPointe to monitor students' participation.

If your Chromebook needs repair, please visit this link for troubleshooting information and instructions on how to get the repair process started.
A limited number of loaner devices are available in room 300 for students who have already started a repair claim with Dell. A service request number is required in order to check out an IT loaner.
