Service Learning/ IMPACT

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

Salpointe Catholic High School, after completing its latest WCEA accreditation review, determined that the #1 priority for the school was to develop and implement a comprehensive service learning program which strengthens the mission of the school. The core of Salpointe Catholic’s service learning is rooted in social justice teachings of the church and Pope Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. Salpointe Catholic has chosen to model their service learning process after one designed by Chris Knabenshue at Crespi Carmelite High School, Encino, CA, a sister school. It honors the Carmelite charism of Prayer, Community and Service.

  • IMPACT

At Salpointe Catholic, service is a way of life. Faculty, staff and administration join the students on IMPACT service days. IMPACT days focus on the seven themes of Catholic Social teaching. Freshman will explore the topic of poverty; sophomores study and serve in Care of God’s Creation, juniors will reach out to the poor and vulnerable, and seniors will advocate for justice.

IMPACT weeks will allow Salpointe Catholic students and staff to become actively engaged in their faith and to recognize their call as Catholic Christians to care for all of God’s creation. As a community, we will recognize the inherent dignity of every human person and that the world is bigger than ourselves. Our students have the skills and desire to continue answering the call to serve throughout their lives.

As a community, we recognize the inherent dignity of every human person and we acknowledge that the world is bigger than ourselves.
