Max Zavalza '19 Marches in the Pride of Arizona Band

Maximiliano Zavalza '19 is a double major at the University of Arizona, studying political science and law. He is also one of the Wildcats playing in the prestigious UA bands. "From the Pride of Arizona to the Arizona Pep Band," Max says, "it truly is an honor to play for such highly recognized programs. Marching in such a prestigious band is amazing." Max appreciates the positive environment that makes them both better musicians and better people. He recognizes Professor Shoopman for encouraging him and developing the program. "I also want to thank UA President Robert Robbins for really supporting the athletic bands at the UA," Max says.

Salpointe had a big impact on Max, preparing him for music and education at the next level. The Humanities program taught him to manage his busy schedule. "It taught me how to work with different people, which is something that is so important in college. People come from different backgrounds, different religions and different philosophies on life."

Former Salpointe band director, Ross Helland, also helped Max as a musician and as a person in general. "Salpointe has staff that cares about you and wants to help you succeed," said Max. "Yes, Salpointe was hard. Yes, Salpointe has challenges, but overall the programs that are available to you as a student can launch you into a career if used correctly."

As you watch the Pride of Arizona form the classic "A" in the fall, look for Max Zavalza on the football field, and know that fellow Lancers can be found anywhere.
