Students Attend the National Catholic Youth Conference

Five students attended the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indiana. These Lancers were joined by students from Bisbee, AZ to form one group from the Diocese of Tucson. The National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) gathers over 20,000 Catholic youth and youth ministers from all across the United States for three days of worship, music, formation and fun. The Conference includes nationally renowned speakers and musicians, and offers workshops for students to address faith and social issues that affect them.

Cecilia Keeme-Sayre '21 is one of these five Lancers and she shared some about her experience. "It was so much fun being able to connect on a deeper level with people you barely know," she said. "I feel closer to my peers that I went with. Being surrounded by so many other young people and being brought together by our faith is so wonderful. I met so many different people from all over the world and it was incredible to be unified by our faith!"

Cecilia's favorite moment at the Conference was Adoration, where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and processed throughout the stadium. "All 20,000 of us in one place to praise God. I have no words to express how amazing it was to praise God in that way, reflect and offer it all up to God. Seeing so many teens move gracefully to the floor to be closer to God, it really is a feeling unlike any other. I was in awe."

Her main take away from the weekend was, "Allow yourself to be open to all the experiences you encounter throughout your life. They might just be the memories you cherish for the rest of your life. No one is perfect, I am not perfect, but we are striving."
