Distance Learning Schedule Change

March 26, 2020

Dear Salpointe families:

Thank you for your patience and support these past few days as we explore together how distance learning can be a successful learning platform for our Lancer community. We recognize that this shift from classroom learning to digital learning is challenging, frustrating, illuminating, overwhelming, exhausting and many things in between. It is especially stressful on families with multiple distance learners and with parents/caregivers who are all working from home.

In listening to students, teachers, parents, and counselors, Salpointe is making an adjustment to the daily Distance Learning Schedule. Beginning on Monday, March 30, we will move to an A/B schedule (periods 1, 2, 3 on A days; periods 4, 5, 6, 7 on B days). Fridays will be considered catch-up days. Please see this link for the SCHS Distance Learning Calendar

This schedule is to guide students in managing their time and keeping coursework organized and up to date. While students are NOT required to be online each class period, we encourage students to work on 3rd period work during 3rd period (12:15-1pm, Mondays & Wednesdays) when possible. Teachers will adjust to this new schedule and if they hold live session classes or “office hours,” they will do so during the time their class "meets" on this A/B calendar.

As mentioned in an email last Friday, all parents should have received an email invitation to receive weekly or daily summaries from Google Classroom regarding their student’s work. Weekly summaries arrive on Friday afternoon with information from the previous week; daily summaries arrive around 4:30 pm with an account of that day’s work. If you need assistance, please email Ellen Fisher, efisher@salpointe.org with your student’s name, English teacher and class period and she will send you an email invitation.

We are committed to continuing the high-quality education we have always offered our Lancers for 70 years, but we recognize that we must scale back the schedule, the workload and the grading. Our goal is to offer the opportunity for a successful, positive experience for every Lancer as we facilitate learning but also support the spiritual, mental and physical health of our Salpointe community.

Please continue to reach out if you have questions. Kay Sullivan can be reached at ksullivan@salpointe.org or 520-547-5878 and Keith Gibalski can be reached at kgibalski@salpointe.org or 520-547-5905. May God continue to bless you and our Salpointe community.

Sincerely,
