Salpointe to Continue Distance Learning Through End of 2019-2020 School Year

March 30, 2020

Dear Salpointe Parents and Lancer Students,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that our sacred Salpointe Catholic High School will not reopen for on-campus learning for the rest of this semester. We will miss seeing each one of you and we know that you will miss one another. Salpointe is a Carmelite community with a long legacy of care and support, and we will continue to keep you connected as we finish the school year from a distance.

While our campus will be closed, your education will continue. Salpointe will deliver college-preparatory educational content to our 1200+ Lancers via distance learning until May 15 for seniors and May 22 for underclassmen. We will send more information about how and when final exams will be administered. Please continue to focus on your classes. Not only is daily learning important for your educational future, but also it will help give purpose to your days.

Salpointe Catholic will be closed during the Easter break, Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 19. No distance learning will take place at that time and we hope that you are able to enjoy time together as a family.

Unfortunately, we must cancel or postpone many of our treasured Lancer traditions. In concert with the State of Arizona, we are canceling all school activities, including prom, athletics, freshman orientation, Salpointe Gala, etc. for the remainder 2019-2020 school year.

We are postponing graduation, pending an attempt to reschedule this treasured tradition for July or August. We recognize that this is not ideal and that in all likelihood, some students and families will not be able to participate. However, we would like to do all in our power to celebrate the Class of 2020, honoring their courage, strength, resilience and lifelong commitment to carry on the Lancer legacy. All graduation and/or honors assembly awards will be presented during or immediately preceding the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremony. Seniors are still on track to receive their caps and gowns, diplomas, Salpointe Scholar awards, NHS and Thespian cords, Legacy Lancer pins, basketball state championship medals and Sports Hall of Fame induction, Fine Artists of the Year, Junior and Senior Athletes of the Year, etc. Yearbooks are already at press and we will notify students as to when they can be picked up. Graduation announcements and tickets will be distributed as soon as we confirm a date.

After the Arizona “stay at home” order is lifted, we ask students to stop by campus by Friday, May 1 any Monday-Friday (except for Easter break) between 7:30-3:30 to remove all personal items from lockers or classrooms.

Take care of yourselves, your family and each other. Pray. Sleep. Stay well.

Sincerely,

Kay Sullivan         Keith Gibalski
President             Interim Principal
