Letter to Salpointe Families - May 1, 2020

Dear Lancer Families,

I am honored to announce that at the recommendation of the selection committee and with the approval of Carmelite Board of Members and the Salpointe Board of Directors, Mr. Keith Gibalski, who has done an exceptional job over the past semester, will serve as Salpointe’s interim Principal for the next two years.

Salpointe’s administration has certainly been tested these past few months and Keith has demonstrated strong leadership and impeccable judgement. He has earned the trust of both our Salpointe community as well as our Tucson Catholic community over the past 40 years, serving here at Salpointe for 27 years and at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School for the previous 13 years. Mr. Gibalski has worked collaboratively with me over these past several months, clearly and consistently championing the Catholic, Carmelite values and mission as well as the high standards cherished at Salpointe. Please join me in congratulating and supporting Mr. Gibalski!

Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week. I invite students and parents to reach out to our faculty and staff to say “thank you” for the work they do day in and day out, year after year. Salpointe is eternally grateful for the dedication and commitment of these loyal educators. For most of them, working at Salpointe is not a job: it is their ministry, their mission and their life’s purpose. At this difficult and unprecedented time in our world, Salpointe’s teachers and staff continue to strengthen our faith, build community and deliver valuable educational content through distance learning. Please join me by sharing your gratitude!

We want to do everything in our power to help our Lancer families in need: financially, academically, spiritually, emotionally, etc. Please let us know how we can help you. Contact me or Mr. Gibalski directly or reach out to your teachers or the Finance Office, Campus Ministry or Counseling. We want every Lancer to return in August, healthy and ready for Salpointe’s treasure of on campus traditions!

Finally, regarding next year, Salpointe intends to open our campus as we do every August, assuming that all goes well this summer with a reduction in COVID-19 cases. We hope to have completed the Stearns Center for the Arts and have every area of our beautiful campus ready to launch a fantastic school year. We plan to hold 2020 graduation events on August 4 and Baccalaureate Mass at St. Augustine Cathedral and Commencement at Tucson Convention Center on August 5. The first day of school for incoming freshmen is Monday, August 10 and for upperclassmen on August 11. Get ready!

Stay safe. Be well. Pray!

Kay Sullivan
