Letter to Salpointe Families - May 8, 2020

Dear Lancer families,

The Class of 2020 ordinarily would have attended the Senior Slide Show and Banquet tonight. A nostalgic next Monday would have marked their last week of school before graduation. But these are not ordinary times. Nonetheless, Salpointe teachers and staff share heartfelt pride in these 275 Lancers. They have been our inspirational student leaders in every aspect of our holistic educational program for the past four years: in the  classrooms; on the fields, courts, pools, tracks and courses; at Kairos; in band, choir, dance and drama; in Horizons and Speech and Debate; in STUCO, in STEM, in Humanities, and the list goes on. This pandemic has challenged us all, but it is the Class of 2020 who has lost the opportunity to shine and be celebrated for their determination and their success. They have met the challenge with grace, gratitude and resilience.

And we at Salpointe are doing our best to salute and honor these seniors: this morning, they picked up caps and gowns; soon they will be able to pick up yearbooks. In this Weekly Peek, we list the colleges accepting our seniors, the Lancers athletes who have committed to play their sports at the collegiate level, and our venerable “Salpointe Scholars.”  You will be wowed by these lists demonstrating wild success by the Class of 2020.

This weekend seniors will find celebratory “Salpointe Class of 2020” signs in their front yards. And on Sunday, May 17, they will see the impressive list of college acceptances that they have earned, including $20M in merit scholarships, in the Arizona Daily Star. We look forward to celebrating Lancer graduation traditions, Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement on August 4 and 5, but in the meantime, please join me in congratulating this remarkable group of Lancers!

Stay safe. Be well. Pray!
