Letter to Salpointe Families from Kay Sullivan - August 28

Dear Lancer families,

Once again, thank you for your patience and support as we work to maximize learning and minimize challenges associated with distance learning. The current schedule allows for a semblance of structure and balance in a student’s day: A days, typically Monday and Wednesday, are longer days (9:00 to 3:00 with a half hour for lunch); B days, typically Tuesday and Thursday, are shorter (9:00 to 1:30 with a half hour for lunch); and C days, typically on Friday, provide for shorter class periods (9:00 to 2:40 with a half hour for lunch).  Please have patience as we continue to make scheduling adjustments as needed.

We miss our students and can’t wait to have them back on campus! Here are sources of data that will help decide the timing as to when Salpointe will safely reopen campus:

Our Tucson community is making great progress and we are getting closer to opening school! When Pima County’s three established “disease data benchmarks” move to the yellow zone, indicating progress in reducing COVID transmission, Salpointe will move to a hybrid model of education. Hybrid means that half of the student body will participate in a modified block schedule for On-Campus instruction on Monday and Tuesday while the other half will be in synchronous digital mode. The second half of the student body will be On-Campus on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday all students will learn remotely yet synchronously while the campus is thoroughly disinfected. This hybrid model will require the implementation of health and safety protocols on campus: wearing masks (two+ layers of fabric with no racial, sexual, political, inappropriate messaging), checking temperatures, practicing social distancing, washing hands frequently and sanitizing the campus. Before initiating the hybrid model, Salpointe will hold “back to school” in person orientation sessions for each of the four classes. We will let you know dates in advance. Also, please be sure to sign the COVID-19 release in MyPointe if you have not done so already.

For those students or their families who have health vulnerabilities, At-Home synchronous learning will continue to be available Monday through Friday. Salpointe needs to know if you are selecting the At-Home Learning option for your student. If you have already signed up for At- Home Learning, you don’t need to do anything more. If you wish to sign up for At-Home Learning, and have not already done so, please click here. The tentative deadline is September 4. Please note that At-Home learners will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities (sports, theatre, clubs, etc.) in person before or after school. For questions, please contact Mr. Michael Fisher at mfisher@salpointe.org or 520-547-4460.

On a different note, please let us know if your family needs help. Salpointe counselors, teachers, financial aid manager, college counselor, learning lab director, tutoring staff, campus ministers and all of us are here and ready to help you and your Lancers. Don’t hesitate to reach out and ask when assistance is needed.

Again, thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to safely bring Lancers back to campus. Have a fun and healthful weekend!

Stay safe. Be well. Pray!
