Letter to Salpointe Families from Kay Sullivan - September 4

Dear Lancer Families,

Thank you for your support and patience as we work to maximize teaching and learning this fall here at Salpointe Catholic. If you missed the September 1 letter detailing the move to hybrid learning, please click here: Salpointe Plan for Reopening Fall 2020.

For the hybrid model that tentatively starts on Monday, September 21, students will be divided alphabetically by last name for in-person, on-campus learning: A-L on Monday and Tuesday and M-Z on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will participate in distance learning during the opposite days. All students will participate in distance learning on Fridays. We will do our best to accommodate students with different last names living in the same household. Contact Mr. Jeff Mounts at jmounts@salpointe.org with questions. To view the hybrid schedule, please click here: Salpointe Calendar

Salpointe will continue to offer a five day/week distance learning option for those students who have vulnerabilities and sign up for At-Home Learning here: At-Home Learning Form

Regarding Salpointe’s health and safety protocols during hybrid learning:

Masks: Salpointe will require all persons on campus to wear masks covering the mouth and nose (at least two layers of fabric with no racial, sexual, political, inappropriate messaging). Students should bring their own masks (not scarves) on a daily basis.  Shields, in addition to masks, are recommended, but not required.

Temperature checks and symptom checklist: If your student is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea), please keep him/her home; do not send him/her to school. Salpointe will use no-contact, infrared thermometers to take temperatures and review symptom checklists with all students and visitors every day. Students who exhibit any COVID-like symptoms will be sent home. Please let Salpointe’s nurse and attendance office know if your student tests positive for COVID-19.

Social Distancing: By opening in the hybrid model, with up to half the students on campus on any given day, Salpointe will be able to effectively provide for six feet of social distancing in classrooms, hallways and lunchrooms. Classrooms have been measured and, with approximately half the number of students in each room, furniture and desks are being placed to assure six feet of distancing. Locker access will be restricted to before and after school and during lunch. Two lunch periods in Foundation Hall and the Commons Plaza will provide enough space to accommodate two students per table, allowing six feet of distance between any two students. Passing periods are being extended to ten minutes to allow for directional movement from class to class, limiting close contact.

Hand Washing and Hand Sanitizer: Salpointe will provide the time and facilities necessary for students to wash and/or sanitize their hands between classes. Longer passing periods will allow students to practice frequent hygiene. Classrooms will be supplied with hand sanitizer.

Campus Sanitization: Salpointe will clean public areas multiple times each day, including student desks, restrooms, door knobs, etc. The school has installed enhanced air filtration systems and facilitated the addition of outside airflow into every classroom and office (shown to be efficacious to reduce any infectious viral load); installed plexiglass shields in high traffic areas such as the Student Services counter, Foundation Hall point of sale stations, Click Library and Spirit Store counter.

Finally, please join us for a virtual Back to School Night.
