Letter to Salpointe Families from Kay Sullivan - September 11

Dear Lancer Families,

Once again, thank you for your support and patience as we work to provide the signature Salpointe experience as best we can during these uncertain times. In order to mitigate continuing technology challenges, Salpointe is investing in more efficient, more powerful computers for our teaching faculty. In order to assure the integrity of our digital classrooms, we have implemented security measures to restrict potential interference in our Google Meet sessions.

We are thrilled to bring our Lancers back to campus for orientation on September 16 and 17 and to initiate hybrid learning on September 21, assuming the COVID metrics continue to hold or improve. If you missed the September 1 letter detailing the move to hybrid learning, please visit Salpointe Plan for Reopening Fall 2020. If you missed the orientation schedule, please click here for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. If you have not signed the COVID Release, please do so in myPointe before September 16.

Salpointe will continue to offer a five day/week distance learning option for those students who select At-Home Learning. Please sign up here: At-Home Learning Form. At-Home learners are welcome to participate in all extracurricular activities.

To assure social distancing during the hybrid model, students will be divided alphabetically by last name for On-Campus learning: A-L on Mondays and Tuesdays and M-Z on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with distance learning during the opposite days. All students will participate in distance learning on Fridays. We will do our best to accommodate students with different last names living in the same household. Contact Mr. Jeff Mounts at jmounts@salpointe.org with questions. To review the hybrid schedule, please click here: Salpointe Calendar

We ask our Lancers for understanding and patience as we complete the construction of the Stearns Center for the Arts. The facility is close to being finished, but detours and unfinished areas may cause a bit of frustration until the project is completed in the next few weeks.

Health and safety protocols will be implemented during hybrid learning:

Masks: Salpointe will require all persons on campus to wear masks covering the mouth and nose (at least two layers of fabric with no racial, sexual, political or inappropriate messaging). Students should bring their own masks (not single layer scarves or gators) on a daily basis. Shields, in addition to masks, are recommended, but not required.

Temperature checks and symptom checklist: If your student is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea), please keep him/her home; do not send him/her to school. Salpointe will use no-contact, infrared thermometers to take temperatures and review symptom checklists with all students and visitors every day. Students who exhibit any COVID-like symptoms will be sent home. Please let Salpointe’s nurse and attendance office know if your student tests positive for COVID-19.

Social Distancing: By opening in the hybrid model, with up to half the students on campus on any given day, Salpointe will be able to effectively provide for six feet of social distancing in most classrooms, hallways and lunchrooms. Locker access will be restricted to before and after school and during lunch. Two lunch periods in Foundation Hall and the Commons Plaza will provide enough space to accommodate two students per table, allowing six feet of distance between students. Passing periods are being extended to ten minutes to allow for directional movement from class to class, limiting close contact.

Hand Washing and Hand Sanitizer: Salpointe will provide the time and facilities necessary for students to wash and/or sanitize their hands between classes. Longer passing periods will allow students to practice frequent hygiene. Classrooms will be supplied with hand sanitizer.

Campus Sanitization: Salpointe will clean public areas multiple times each day, including student desks, restrooms, door knobs, etc. The school has installed enhanced air filtration systems and facilitated the addition of outside airflow into every classroom and office. Plexiglass shields have been installed in high traffic areas such as the Student Services counter, Foundation Hall point of sale stations, Click Library and Spirit Store counter.

Finally, please join us for a virtual Back to School Night.

When: Monday, September 14, 2020
