A Note of Gratitude from Salpointe's Basketball Coach

Justin Curran was Salpointe's Head Coach of the women's basketball team since 2014. He joined the Salpointe in 2012 as the Varsity Assistant. Curran coached the Lancers to a 92-60 record in his six years with the program including three straight playoff appearances to close out his tenure, with three top ten rankings and a No. 6 nod in 2018-2019.

Salpointe's next women's basketball Head coach, Joseph Luevano, served as Curran's assistant for the past three years. “My role allowed me to work with athletes at all levels of the program," said Luevano. "My focus was player development. I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead Salpointe women's basketball. I’m grateful for the opportunities that a lot of great people have given me especially Coach Curran.” Read more from AZ Preps here.

Coach Curran wanted to express his gratitude to the entire Salpointe community. He shares this letter:

To the Salpointe Community:
I have spent the majority of the last eight years or so inside of the Main Gym, Alumni Hall or in the Weight Room, typically in a Lancer top or shorts, like any of the other coaches you see on campus. My time as a Lancer Coach has come to an end, but I need to express my gratitude to the entire Salpointe Community as you have helped me develop into the person that I am today. Thank you to the educators who challenged and pushed our players in the classroom so that they could embrace and thrive in Lancer Basketball after school. Thank you to the Administration and Athletic Department for taking a chance on me and supporting us as we worked through the process of rebuilding into what is now arguably the BEST Program in Southern Arizona. Thank you to the student body and athletes who attended to our games and recognized our players as basketball players, not just girls playing basketball. Finally, thank you to my players, as your hard work, effort and dedication to the Team and Program over yourself made up the foundation of what we were able to build. I leave with a great sense of pride in what we accomplished in my tenure and I am grateful that I will be able to continue to wear my Lancer gear with the same pride that I had from day one.
