Distance Learning Extended Through February 15
Salpointe has made the difficult decision to extend at-home distance learning through February 15. Please know that the health and safety of our community is our greatest concern as we navigate this pandemic. Please click here to read the letter emailed to students and parents earlier this week with additional information.

Parent Resource: Using Pear Deck
Parents, you may notice that many of your student’s teachers are using Pear Deck as a tool to help facilitate engagement and learning in the remote classroom. You may see your student working in Pear Deck, and if need to assist with their assignment, here is a helpful guide for you in English and Spanish

Yearbook Photos
If you still need to take or retake your yearbook photo, join us in the Library on February 9 or February 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please enter through the Glenn Gate Entrance. Masks and social distancing will be enforced while waiting to take your photo.

If you cannot attend these dates, contact Rembrandt Photography at 520-326-5499 to set up an appointment to have your photo taken. Students must have an appointment before visiting the studio. Your photo must be taken before Rodeo Break (February 25, 2021) to be included in the yearbook.

Seniors: if you have not done so already, contact Rembrandt Photography to make an appointment for your senior portraits before February 25. To see photo proofs, email Rembrandt Photography at rpstudio01@gmail.com. To order photos, visit www.rembrandtpics.com. Contact Mr. Shinaberry at kshinaberry@salpointe.org with any questions.

Students, please do not park in the Weight Room parking lot, as this lot is designated for our coaches. Parking is available in the QB Club lot. Thank you for your cooperation.

Spectators at Winter Sports
As our winter sports begin (basketball and soccer), please understand that the recommendation from the AIA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee is not to allow spectators at these events. We will adhere to this recommendation and if the health metrics improve, we will make adjustments. In the meantime, we are very fortunate to have cameras in our gym and stadium, and all of our home games can be viewed live streamed through the NFHS Network.

Log onto www.nfhsnetwork.com. Type in Salpointe Catholic at the top of the page. It will take you to our page and have a list of our events that are being live streamed. Click on the game you want to watch and subscribe. It is $10.99 per month or $69.99 for the year. We look forward to watching our student-athletes compete!

The Catholic University of America (Washington, DC) has launched an innovative new Bachelor’s Degree in Management here in Tucson. Seniors with a military parent or guardian are invited to apply for one of the scholarships offered by the Davis-Monthan Spouses Club. Seniors planning to study engineering or computer science can now apply for the Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship Program which awards $10,000 to 200 recipients, renewable for four years, along with summer internships with Lockheed Martin. Students will be selected based on academic record, financial need, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals, unusual personal or family circumstances. Preference given to those under-represented in the field of engineering as described in the application. Deadline is April 1 but you must allow four weeks advance notice for a letter of recommendation.

Interested in a pharmacy career? The University at Buffalo (NY) is accepting applications from sophomores and juniors for their free, virtual Pharmacy Summer Institute which provides students an opportunity to learn about careers in pharmacy practice, research or other related pathways. This three-day virtual program is competitive. Students should have very high grades in math and science along with an unweighted GPA of 3.0. You need a letter of recommendation, preferably from a math or science teacher. Your class counselor can send in a transcript if notified by May 15. Deadline to apply is June 1, but you must allow at least four weeks advance notice for a recommendation letter. Details at: Pharmacy Summer Institute

SAT and ACT testing for juniors: Some colleges plan to continue with “test optional” admissions where test scores are not required, and other colleges will require students to take either the SAT or ACT tests for admission or scholarships. It’s going to be a mix of both. To keep all of your opportunities open, Mrs. Ossowski recommends that juniors plan to take both the SAT and ACT this spring. If you feel comfortable, we recommend you register for the March 13 SAT and the February 6 ACT test to get started. Find important testing information at SAT / ACT Overview and Dates.

College Board announced recently that the SAT Subject Tests will be discontinued after June 2021. The essay option on the SAT will also be discontinued. Students can cancel registration for the essay portion at any time through their College Board account. The SAT exam will still be given as usual.

The United States Naval Academy has opened applications for their two summer programs: Summer Seminar for current juniors, and Summer STEM for grades 9, 10, 11. Both offer a one week on-campus experience and a glimpse of life at the Naval Academy. Cost is $650 for Summer Seminar and $900 for Summer STEM. Need-based scholarships are available for the program fee and travel. Details at USNA Summer Programs. The deadline to apply is March 31.

Applications are now open for the Joaquin Bustoz Math-Science Honors Program this summer at Arizona State University, open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Must have completed Algebra II before the summer, with grades of B or higher in all math and science classes. Deadline to apply is February 15. Click here for more information.

Sophomores and juniors, this is a great time to explore possible colleges. Attend one of the eight National College Fairs sponsored by the National Association for College Admissions Counseling between January 21 and May 2, 2021. These are the fairs that most colleges attend. There is no cost to participate, but you need to decide which colleges to visit ahead of time. Here is a GREAT two minute video on how to get the most out of the NACAC fairs. And here is the college fair Quick Start Guide.

Juniors: The Doorway to College Foundation is offering an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming SAT in March or ACT in April. Click here to learn more.
