Salpointe Weekly Peek - February 12, 2021

Happy Friday, Lancers! Please take a moment to read the important announcements below.

Announcements

Hybrid Learning Information, Protocols and Schedules
We thank you for your patience and support over these past months as we moved from distance to hybrid to distance learning, following the recommendations of Arizona Department of Health Services. The metrics for case positives per 100K, percent positivity in transmission rates, and hospitalizations with COVID-like illnesses in Pima County have dramatically declined over the past two weeks and we are hopeful that this downward trend will continue. Therefore, Salpointe Catholic will resume hybrid education on Monday, February 15. Click here to view the parent letter sent out with information on schedules, health and safety protocols, etc. We have some helpful reminders below as students return to campus next week.

Dress Code Reminder
All students should be in Dress Code or participating in the Spirit Week. This includes:
  1. School uniform and appropriate outerwear.
  2. Masks must be worn at all times. Temperatures will be taken when you arrive on campus.
  3. Clean shaven. Hair should be a natural color.
  4. Student IDs must be worn around the neck. Need a Student ID?  Stop by the Salpointe Spirit Store before school. Students will need their ID to purchase lunch from the cafeteria (see instructions below).
Food Service on My School Bucks
The Salpointe Food Service Department is excited to provide a convenient, easy and secure online pre-payment service to deposit money into your student's school meal account. This service also provides you with the ability to view your student's account balance and food purchase history. By having money in your student's account prior to entering the cafeteria, the lunch lines move along faster and your student will have more time to eat and be with friends.

To access these services visit www.myschoolbucks.com. All you need is your student's name, birthdate and student ID number. Your student's ID number is available by logging into myPointe, then clicking on the student's name and contact card.

Last Chance for Yearbook Photos
If you have not had a yearbook photo taken, please contact Rembrandt Photography at (520) 797-9200 to set up an appointment to have your photo taken. Students must have an appointment before visiting the studio. Your photo must be taken before Rodeo Break (February 25, 2021) to be included in the yearbook.

Seniors: if you have not done so already, contact Rembrandt Photography to make an appointment for your senior portraits before February 25. To see photo proofs, email Rembrandt at rpstudio01@gmail.com. To order photos, visit https://rembrandtoftucson.com/. Contact Mr. Shinaberry at kshinaberry@salpointe.org with any questions.

Student Parking Reminder
Students may only park in the Glenn St. parking lot. Parents may drop off their students on Copper St., in the Mountain Ave. parking lot, or in the Glenn St. parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation as we strive to make the mornings and afternoons as free of traffic build up as possible.

College Counseling

Thoughts for the week: What separates successful people from the rest? What’s their secret? Successful students, athletes and people in any field suffer setbacks and disappointments, and they have things happen that are out of their control. The most successful ones are able to reframe and respond in ways that empower and keep them moving towards their dreams. The one thing you can control is your response to a given situation. It's up to you. When setbacks happen, acknowledge your feelings of disappointment, and then sit down and think of how you can work around them, set new goals, and keep moving forward. Don’t let the disappointment take over your future.

Parents, be careful. This is the time of year when organizations try to convince you and your student that they have “been selected” for various acknowledgements. Protect yourself from others who want to “honor” you. Salpointe does not recommend students for these outside organizations. Most are questionable and ask you to pay for your photo inside a book or website. They are not recognized by colleges as a true award. Groups to avoid include: World Scholar International Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, North America Scholar Consortium (NASC)  Honor Society, The National Society of High School Scholars (This is not SCHS chapter of the legitimate National Honor Society) and USA Honor Society.

Junior Announcements

Counselors have met with juniors to talk about college plans, both in their theology classes and during after school meetings this past week. Any juniors who missed these conversations should watch the recordings posted in their Google Classroom (Future Plans Class of 2022). At this time of the semester, we recommend that juniors explore possible college majors, research colleges, sign up for SAT and ACT tests and talk with parents about paying for college

Parents of juniors were welcomed to a Chat with the College Counselors this past week. Topics included Naviance, where to find my real GPA, and the Future Plans classroom for college resources. Click here for a video recording of the meet.
