Student Services

A message from our Counseling Team:
We are always thinking about developing motivation and resilience in our students. We fully recognize that the many changes in both school structure and normal daily life over the past year have been difficult. It’s quite common for students to feel disconnected or sad about the ways that their lives have changed. Some students have struggled with the demands of remote learning, while others have negotiated it well, finding themselves gaining independence and new skills in managing their studies. However you have been impacted, it is good to just acknowledge that you’ve had to negotiate an unusual and sometimes stressful situation.

As we slowly emerge from the isolation of the past year, we are seeing more students on the Salpointe campus, and a renewed sense of community and connection. We encourage students to return to in person learning if possible. Parents, we encourage you to talk with your children about their experiences and feelings. Appreciate even small things that they accomplish each day, and help them to create some balance. Spending time outside, safely connecting with friends, keeping a healthy diet, and getting some exercise all help. Students, keep cultivating curiosity about the future. What do you want your future to look like? We may not be able to control the world around us, but we can always control our response and our attitude. Keep looking forward. Here are a few articles to help you:

Lent Reflections
Eucharistic Ministers prepared a series of reflections on the Sunday Gospels during Lent, a total of five short videos. They can be found on Instagram under @Salpointe_CampusMinistry and on this LINK.

Character Counts
On Tuesday morning of this past week Sophia Baker told a humorous story of a man who learned a valuable lesson the hard way when not giving his best (Never Cut Corners). Thursday morning was the Feast of the Annunciation and Diego Marquez reminded us of the courage Mary had in saying “Let it be” … or “yes” to being the mother of Jesus (Courage in Choices). College Counseling
For the past four years, Catholic University has worked with hundreds of Tucson area community members, including students, parents, teachers, principals, and business leaders to develop an innovative 4-year business degree. This BA in Management is affordable, giving students up to four semesters of internships and connecting students to gig work and CEO lectures as early as the first year. It is co-located on the PCC downtown campus and the Diocese of Tucson Pastoral Center with a hybrid program that only requires class 2-3 days per week. Catholic U –Tucson’s hybrid learning model combines online lectures with in-person discussions, maintains a small class size (never larger than 25) and allows students to learn directly from faculty in DC and instructors on the ground in Tucson. Interested families can join in a Zoom information session 7:00-7:45 p.m. on  April 6, 20, May 4, 18 or June 1, 15. You can see a five minute video about the program at Catholic University - Tucson and even hear about Salpointe graduate Braulio Quintero’s experiences at Salpointe HS Alumni Braulio. Contact admissions coordinator Kieran Roche at rochek@cua.edu.

Seniors: We wish you luck as your next round of college decisions arrive! We are anxious to hear your news. Please remember to upload a copy of acceptances, denials, wait lists, and academic scholarships to college@salpointe.org so that we can track your decisions. Thank you!

Preference given to those under-represented in the field of engineering as described in the application. The deadline to apply is next week -- April 1.
