Character Counts
As we continue our celebration of Easter, our commentaries presented reflections on the important event. On Wednesday morning, Christina Tellez provided a key point on how the resurrection impacted the followers of Jesus (Easter Certainty). Thursday morning, Diego Marquez talked of the distinction between happiness and joy, along with how the latter can sustain us more through difficult times (Joy in Life). College Counseling
Junior announcements:
There are still a few spots open for our four-day Kick-Start! College Application Essay Workshop this summer. As many colleges continue to use a test optional admissions policy, your college essays have a bigger impact on getting admitted to colleges out of state. Workshops are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 24-27, June 1-4, or July 30-Aug 2. The cost for 16 hours of instruction is $485 with some scholarships available. Register at: KickStart Registration 2021

Juniors: Our final Get Out of Town Workshop for this semester will be Saturday, April 24 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. It will be done virtually through Google Meet. There will be two more workshops in August. This is a required step if you plan to apply to colleges out of state. You and at least one parent should attend from the comfort of home. Please register in advance at: GOOT Registration, Class of 2022.

Sophomores and juniors: Don’t let the spring fly by without jumping onto one of the six upcoming virtual college fairs and information sessions in the next few weeks. This is a great free way to learn about colleges, and to demonstrate your interest in a particular institution. Details at: College Virtual Events, Spring 2021.

Curious about the future? Wondering what sorts of things you might study after high school? Check out this list of college majors that may be new to you. What Can I Study in College?

Have you been receiving unexpected emails from colleges? If you checked the box through the College Board to allow colleges to contact you, then you will receive emails from them. We encourage you to open the emails and see what that college is all about. You may want to set up a label (like a folder) in your school Gmail account where you save these emails for future reference. You don't want them to pile up in your general inbox.

Senior announcements:
Seniors: We are in the final stages of putting together our senior graduation program listing college acceptances, so please don’t delay in sending us copies of acceptances, denials, wait lists and academic scholarships to college@salpointe.org. Only your acceptances will be listed in the graduation program, along with a notation if you received an academic scholarship.

Students in the Class of 2021 have been admitted to 111 colleges, universities, schools and military branches and offered $13,637,530 in academic scholarships, over four years. Congratulations, Seniors! College Acceptances List.

Ethical practices regarding enrollment deposits: We want to be sure that all seniors and parents are aware that it is considered unethical to pay an enrollment deposit at more than one college. Please understand that double depositing could result in your offer of admission being revoked by one or both colleges. For example, if you pay a deposit at the University of Arizona and then change your mind to attend a different college, you must first let UA know you are canceling your enrollment before moving on. The UA is very generous and will refund deposits up until May 15. Please get in touch with Mrs. Ossowski if you have questions or want to discuss this.

Have you considered taking an organized Gap Year after high school graduation? Here are a few resources to learn more about it. Gap Year Overview.

Summer opportunity: The application deadline has been extended for the FBI Teen Academy, a behind-the-scenes look at the FBI. You will interact with special agents, intelligence analysts, special weapons and tactics and the evidence response teams. Classes are held virtually from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursdays from June 17 to July 8, followed by an in-person experience in both Phoenix and Tucson. Deadline for this competitive application is May 14, 2021. Apply at FBI Teen Academy.
