Salpointe Weekly Peek - April 30, 2021

Happy Friday, Lancers! Please take a moment to read the important announcements below.

Announcements

Class of 2021 Graduation
We can't wait to celebrate the many achievements of the Class of 2021 at Graduation on May 15! Please note: this year, the TCC will be operating under capacity restrictions, which means that seating will be severely limited and each attendee will need a ticket to enter.

To meet predetermined social distancing requirements, we are able to distribute six tickets to each graduating senior. Seating at the TCC will be arranged to accommodate 287 six-person pods -- a pod for each graduating senior’s family, with all other areas off limits. Seating pod selection is on a first come, first serve basis. We sincerely ask for your understanding and cooperation in following these seating restrictions.

Ticket packets and caps and gowns will be distributed to seniors after school from 2:30 to 4:00p next Wednesday through Friday, May 5-7, in Foundation Hall. Please see our Graduation webpage for more information.

After School Tutoring
The end of the semester is quickly approaching. Tutoring is available in Foundation Hall during the week (Monday-Thursday) from 2:30-4:00p during the next two weeks. Any student who is an at home learner and would like tutoring should make a request, that day, through tutoring@salpointe.org. The weekly schedule is as follows:

Monday
English, Chemistry and Math

Tuesday
English, Spanish and Math

Wednesday
English, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Biology and Math

Thursday

Parents, if you would like to see if your child is attending tutoring, go to myPointe→ Resources→ Tutoring→ Link at bottom of page. Students are listed by their ID number. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Welchert at swelchert@salpointe.org.

Volunteers for Finals Week
The Learning Lab needs volunteers to help administer online final exams for Senior Finals (May 12-14) and Junior, Sophomore and Freshmen Finals (May 17-20). Volunteers sign up for two-hour time slots during final exam week and their task is to read aloud exams to students who have that accommodation for their learning

All of our finals are online this semester, so volunteers would be expected to meet students in a google meet virtual room (from home) to read the tests. If you are interested in helping administer final exams and would like to be included on our list of volunteers, please contact Allison Holstrom at aholstrom@salpointe.org.

Parent Survey
We are grateful for the resilience, dedication and patience you have demonstrated as we navigated the global pandemic together since March 2020. Salpointe’s Carmelite charism honoring prayer, service and community has guided the school over the past 70+ years and these values have been particularly life-giving during this challenging year. As always, your feedback is valued and appreciated. Please answer this short two-question survey focusing on your student’s educational experience. Again, thank you for your continued support.

Student Services

Health Office Medication Pick Up
As we approach the end of the school year, please keep in mind that all medication that is stored in the health office, including diabetic supplies, must be picked up no later than the last day of school. Any medication left behind will be destroyed as we cannot keep prescribed medications in the health office during the summer. A parent/adult must pick up medications as these cannot be released to students. Thank you!

Character Counts
In our first commentary this week on Wednesday, Sophia Baker challenged the notion of winning an argument as opposed to finding a compromise  (It is Better to Be Happy Than Right). Thursday morning, Diego Marquez reflected on the importance of listening in communicating with others (Be A Good Listener). Follow the links to see the full messages!

College Counseling
Seniors: Here are four things to do by end of the day on May 1:

1) Make your college choice if you plan to attend college. Confirm that by paying any required enrollment deposit and signing up for new student orientation.

2) Log into Naviance, and mark your decision under the section called "College Attending."

3) Email the Cancellation Form to all colleges where you will not accept their admission offer.

4) Be sure you've uploaded college decision letters and academic scholarships to college@salpointe.org. (We're sending the graduation program to the printer at 8:00 am on Monday 5/3)

Celebrate our seniors! Salpointe is proud to announce that students in the Class of 2021 have been admitted to 143 colleges, universities, schools and military branches, with $18,927,799 in academic scholarships offered, over four years. You can see a list of colleges admitting our students at Class of 2021 College Acceptances.
