Salpointe Weekly Peek - October 29, 2021

Happy Friday, Lancers!

This week's prayer is from Jennifer Harris, Director of Advancement:
Dear God, As I go forward with you, please strengthen the quiet voice of my conscience, your own voice, in my life. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, oh Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Amen. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us.

Freshmen will work together in teams journeying to Knighthood. During the journey King Arthur, his Knights and Ladies will lead our freshmen to explore the Virtues of Knighthood and how they are relevant to our lives today. Students do not have to register for this activity. We suggest that students leave their backpacks at home that day. There will be no regular classes for the class of 2025. Please bring a water bottle.  Lunch will be provided. It is strongly suggested that students leave their cell phones at home.

Thespian Troupe 5370 Presents Governing Alice November 5-6
In this modern adaptation of the Greek classic Antigone, a rebellious high school student named Alice must respond to the sudden and shattering death of her older brother, the class valedictorian -- who was shot while robbing a convenience store. Up against an unyielding Principal and accompanied by a bookish Geek Chorus, Alice must find her own way through personal and classical tragedy. In honoring her brother, she'll probably break some rules. Which is more important?
Shows are at 7pm both evenings. Tickets sold at the door. Adult tickets at $4, non-Salpointe student tickets are $3 and Salpointe students get in free with school ID!

Community of Concern: Repeat Presentation
Those who were not able to attend the Community of Concern presentation in September will have another chance on Tuesday, November 9 from 6 - 8 pm in Foundation Hall.

Teachers and counselors are seeing the long-term effects of the last year and half on our students, such as an increase in academic, social, and mental health concerns. We want to share those observations with you and make sure that we are working together, both at school and at home, to support our young people.

Topics for the evening will cover:
  • Recognizing and assisting our students who are struggling academically, socially or mentally
  • New Counseling and Campus Ministry programs that will help address those issues
  • How counselors, teachers and parents can best work together
  • Additional resources for parents

Character Counts
On Wednesday, Stella quoted a passage from scripture on love and related how envy and unhealthy pride are not reflective of our uniqueness in the eyes of God (Avoiding Envy and Boastfulness). Thursday, Omar talked about the difference between envy and gratitude and how the former is always about our wants, while the latter, more importantly, focuses on our needs (Envy vs. Gratitude). Follow the links to read the full commentary!
