Salpointe Weekly Peek - November 12, 2021

Happy Friday, Lancers!

This week's prayer is from Br. Ramon Coutino-Lopez, one of Salpointe's Carmelite interns:
He who wants to win the world for Christ must have the courage to come in conflict with it, Blessed Titus Brandsma said, Tender-hearted God, renew the gift of the Holy Spirit within the Carmelite Family as we seek to live following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Teach us, like Mary, to contemplate your wisdom. Fill us, like Elijah, with zeal for your glory. Inspire us, like Titus Brandsma, to ponder your will in times of change. May our lives of prayer, community and service be a sign to the world that God lives, in whose presence we stand. This grace we ask in Jesus' name. Amen. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us.

Salpointe Drama presents: The Man Who Came To Dinner, an enduring comedic masterpiece from Moss Hart and George F. Kauffman. Set in Mesalia, Ohio in 1939, the irascible and acerbic Sheridan Whiteside is gallivanting across the country on his annual lecture tour. The famous Manhattan radio personality slips on an icy stoop outside the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stanley. Whiteside upends the Stanley home with his egotistical demands and unwanted meddling. He encourages the Stanley children to defy their parents, receives strange and exotic gifts and hosts a menagerie of highly unusual guests. Meanwhile, his beloved secretary has given her notice after falling in love with a local reporter. Whiteside must engage every weapon in his considerable arsenal of guile and manipulation to keep her in his employ, including blackmail, deceit, and the intervention of the seductive actress Lorraine Sheldon and the elegant British wit of playwright Beverly Carlton. A three-ring circus of comedic machinations draws the audience into this timeless classic.

After School Tutoring
Changes to the check-in procedures for After School Tutoring:

Students will be signed by subject area instead of teacher name. An additional option for the “Subject” area at sign-in now includes “Homework”. This is for students that would like to use tutoring as a place to do homework and not meet with a tutor. A list of daily tutors has been attached under “Tutoring” in myPointe.

All students that sign in must be present for twenty minutes or more to be entered into the online tutoring log. Parents can still check students' tutoring attendance by going to myPointe: Resources: Tutoring: Attendance and then use the student’s ID number. Contact Mrs. Welchert with any questions at swelchert@salpointe.org.

Become a Lancer Leader!
We are now taking applications from sophomores and juniors who will become mentors to next year's freshmen. Mentors will follow his/her freshmen throughout the entire school year and be a "big brother/big sister". The mentors will help with the transition to high school and help the freshmen with their academic and social skills. They will also help them feel like welcomed members of the community and encourage them to get involved.

These Lancer Leaders will have training in leadership and counseling skills and also work with Campus Ministry to make sure they are well-versed in the Carmelite charism of prayer, community and service. Each mentor will be responsible for 4-5 freshmen. Training begins second semester. Click on this link to apply. Lancer Leader application
