Salpointe joins Carmelitas Model UN Conference

On Sunday, October 24, 2021, the Salpointe Delegation joined the closing ceremony of the 2021 Carmelitas Model UN Conference, which coincided with the 76th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

Over the weekend, delegates participated in committees that covered a wide range of topics from the establishment of the UN to property rights over vaccines. They met delegates from Peru, Mexico, Lebanon, and Argentina. As delegate Felipe Garcia ‘23 recalls, “I had a lot of fun diving into the roleplay and finding common ground with my fellow delegates”. As delegates representing Salpointe, and role-playing as member countries of various International Organizations, Salpointe's Model UN Club helped to create policies for COVID Response, Climate Change and Peace Keeping in war zones.

In addition to the debates; students also heard from professional diplomats who work in the United Nations and academia, such as members of the UN Children's’ Fund (UNICEF).

The CarMUN conference is an annual Model UN Conference hosted by Salpointe’s Carmelite Sister School Carmelitas in Lima, Peru.
