Key Club X Gravity Water Fundraiser
The Salpointe Key Club has recently partnered with Gravity-Water, a  501 (c)3 non-profit organization, to bring children aged 2 to 5 in Vietnam with a localized source of safe drinking water that is on-site, self-sustaining and 100% energy-free. Any donation you give will be tax-deductible and you will be providing one child with access to clean drinking water for years. With your help, the Key Club will be that much closer to reaching their goal and truly making an impact on the lives of these children, and helping to solve the global water crisis.
 
Pima County 2022 Summer Youth Program 
The Pima County Summer Youth Program provides summer employment opportunities for youth ages 14-21 who meet the criteria for summer employment. The applications are open now with a deadline to apply of March 18 at 5 pm. Apply online here. Questions? Call 520-724-9649 for more information.
 
Young Global Leader Program
The University of Arizona College of Public Health is offering a Young Global Leader Program to high school juniors and seniors to help gain hands-on Public Health experience! For more information, including dates and costs, view the flyer here.

This year's Gala will be held at Cathedral Square on Saturday, April 9!

Sister José Women’s Center
YouCarm Club invites you to help Sister José Women’s Center. Sister José Women’s Center is dedicated to the care and nurture of homeless women. They provide the women of Tucson with access to showers, laundry, meals, clothing and a supportive community so they can create a self-sufficient life and move out of homelessness. You can help them by collecting items such as new socks, deodorant, feminine products and sunscreen. All of these items must be given to Campus Ministry before March 12. Another way to help is by volunteering in person at the center (1050 S Park Ave). For more details, contact Br. Ramon.

Summer School 2022
You can now register for summer school at Salpointe by going to the Summer School Resource Board found on the "Resources" tab in MyPointe. Please complete the registration form. You will receive a detailed email once the registration is received.
 
Summer School Session 1 starts on Monday, May 23, 2022 and ends on Thursday, June 9, 2022. There is no school on Fridays and no school on Monday, May 30, 2022.
 
Summer School Session 2 starts on Monday, June 13, 2022 and ends on Thursday, June 30, 2022. There is no school on Fridays and no school on Monday, June 20, 2022.

AP (Advanced Placement) Exam Payment
In order to take the AP Exam(s) in May, there is a College Board fee of $96 (per exam).  

Salpointe uses Total Registration to collect AP testing fees. Please use the link (Total Registration) to make payments. Parents/Guardians, make sure to have your student with you since they will need to complete registration information about his/her AP subjects, teachers and class periods.

The deadline for making payments without incurring a late fee is
Friday, March 25. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Hayes (phayes@salpointe.org / 520-547-4332).
 
Carmelite Spirituality
Bl. Titus Brandsma Lectures
The Carmelite Institute is hosting a series of lectures on Bl. Titus Brandsma, a Carmelite whose cause for sainthood has been accepted and is awaiting canonization. These free online lectures are meant to help people learn about Bl. Titus and his process to sainthood. Keep an eye out for future events hosted by the shrine in preparation for welcoming this new Carmelite Saint into our church. Learn more and register for the free lectures here.
 
Walk with Us
This Lenten season Salpointe parents, grandparents, and guardians are invited to join the Carmelites in the Lectio Divina Lent program. Lectio Divina is Latin for "divine reading," "spiritual reading," or "holy reading" and represents a method of prayer and scripture reading intended to promote communion with God and provide special spiritual insights. Join the Carmelites for an hour-long meditation and prepare your heart for the Resurrection of the Lord. Offered Thursdays in March (10, 24 and 31) at 7 pm in the library. Character Counts
With Ash Wednesday this week, our first commentary was on Tuesday.  Stella discussed people making sacrifices for Lent and the challenge of finding something meaningful that will help us become better people (A Lenten Journey). On Thursday, Omar shared the results of a survey done during lunch. Though many students were still giving thought to what they might do during Lent, others had specific tasks in mind. The key message was the importance of the act being transformative  (Lenten Resolutions). Follow the links to read the full commentaries!
 
College Counseling
Juniors: Students who are considering applying to colleges out of state are encouraged to register to attend an upcoming Get Out of Town Workshop. There are two dates in March available. We’ll discuss the timeline and application process for attending out of state colleges. One parent should attend with their student. Register here.
 
Congratulations to senior, Emma Francone, who has been awarded the National Hispanic Scholar Award from the College Board for excellence in academic achievement. We are so proud of you Emma!

Salpointe will welcome several college admissions reps to our campus next week: 
Florida Institute of Technology: Tues, March 8 @ 10 am
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott: Tues, March 8 @ 11 am

Visits are open for Juniors and Seniors. Students must sign up to attend via Naviance → College Visits, or come by Student Services. 

Seniors who are planning on attending a 4-year or 2-year college in Arizona are eligible to apply for the Dougherty Foundation Scholarship. Multiple scholarships are available in the online application.  Students must demonstrate financial need, and there is no minimum GPA. Maximum awards are $1000 for community college and $2,000 for 4-year universities in Arizona and are renewable for up to 5 years.
The Pima County Youth One Stop announces this year’s 2022 Summer Youth Program. This program provides summer employment opportunities for youth ages 14-21 who meet the criteria. Please find application information here. The deadline to apply is March 18. 

Get a head start on your health care career this summer. The University at Buffalo Pharmacy Summer Institute is an excellent opportunity for high school students to explore career options in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences during an in-person, three day program. 

Athletics

Soccer Sweeps 4A Championships
Salpointe Girls Soccer won their fifth state championship in six years and Boys Soccer won the state title for the 8th time in school history. Congratulations!
 
Basketball 4A Championships
Salpointe Girl's Basketball won the 4A State Championship against Flagstaff on February 28. This is the first state championship win in Salpointe Girl's Basketball history! And a congratulations to Salpointe Men's Basketball for finishing 4A State Runners-Up! What a season!
 
Boy's Wresting
Andru Gomez and Che Jenkins both finished State Runners-Up this Salpointe Wrestling season. Andru broke the school record for wins in a season with 53! Congratulations!

Fine Arts

Cuentos Life Stories Exhibit
There will be an opening reception for Cuentos on Tuesday, March 8 from 6-8 pm in the Stevens Gallery. Cuentos examines the human experience in the personal, cultural, and societal realm through the lens of Tucson artists Ruben Urrea Moreno, Mel Dominguez and Rachel Espinoza. Together and alongside the artwork of Salpointe art students, this body of art will highlight the cross-cultural nuanced depictions of diverse cultural perspectives and emotional evolution through the creative artistic process. These are the Cuentos (stories) of growth and life today.
 
Stories That Soar! High!
Literacy Connects, Stories That Soar! High! is an amazing program that allows students from schools to write stories and then our actors perform some of the stories. Show dates are March 11 and March 12 at 7 pm. Tickets are FREE; however, we will be accepting donations. All donations will go to St. John the Evangelist Catholic School to pay for next year's Stories That Soar! High!
 
Salpointe Drama Presents Little Shop of Horrors
Musical comedy is in full bloom with this perennially-popular, award-winning musical. Little Shop of Horrors blends doo-wop, rock, and Motown tunes into a touching and totally-twisted, monster of a hit. A strange and unusual plant seems like just the thing to save the troubled Skid Row flower shop and its unfortunate employees, Seymour and Audrey. But when that plant turns out to feed solely on human blood with plans of world domination, things get...messy. With Grammy and Academy Award-winning songs, you’ll laugh and cringe at this darkly comedic musical. 
 
Show plays March 25, 26, April 1, 2 at 7 pm and March 27 and April 3 at 2 pm. Seating will be General Admission with the exception of 60 reserved seats at a premium price (Premium Price for Adults is $25, Children is $15.) General Admission Adult tickets are $10. Children and non-Salpointe students are $8. Salpointe students get in free at the door but can purchase a ticket ahead of the show for $1 from Showtix4u. Tickets sold at the door will be $15 for adults and $10 for children and non Salpointe students. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/60932

Instrumental Music Program

In our music department we are bringing back several traditions that have been lost for decades. Over Rodeo weekend, The Lancer Marching Band and two members of the Game Day Pom squad marched in the 2022 Tucson Rodeo Parade. The very next day, the Maroon & Gold Lancer Jazz Band headed up to the NAU Jazz Festival in Flagstaff. The band played really well, impressed the judges, and learned a lot! Two Lancers received Outstanding Performer Awards. Congratulations to Ben Teller ‘25 (piano) and Nick Howell ‘24 (drum set) for Outstanding Soloist Awards from the judges!

Arizona Tuition Connection - Scholarship Coaching Session
Wednesday, March 9 | 6:00pm
Do you have questions about what scholarships your family can receive? Learn how there are scholarships available for all students in low, medium and high income families. It is not too late to receive funding; Arizona Tuition Connection does not have any application deadlines! This one hour training will give you the education and tools you need to be successful in maximizing your scholarship awards. Every parent should plan on attending! We will meet in the Click Family Library. *Masks required on campus.  
 
Financial Aid Independent Review (FAIR) 22/23 School year - The FAIR application for the 22/23 school year is now open. Please be sure to apply at www.fairapp.com using Salpointe's School Code: 800 and School Password: ctso800. The deadline to apply for the 22/23 school year is April 15. Please note: a new application must be submitted each school year. Although applications are submitted through FAIR, all funds come from Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO).

Catholic Tuition Support Organization (CTSO)
CTSO also accepts Arizona tax credit donations for Salpointe students through their referral program. In order for your student to receive CTSO Referral Funds, you must create a profile at https://referral.ctso-tucson.org/login and obtain an "RP #." Once you have your RP #, you can then provide it to potential donors. Donors must provide your RP # and school name to CTSO when donating. For families already registered, please be sure to submit new information and/or appropriate documents to CTSO each school year.
 
Institute for Better Education (IBE)
IBE not only offers financial need-based awards, they also accept Arizona tax credit recommendations for Salpointe students. Please apply at ibescholarships.org. A new application must be completed each school year.
 
Arizona Tuition Connection (ATC)
ATC accepts Arizona tax credit donations for Salpointe students. ATC also provides financial need-based awards throughout the school year. Please apply at www.arizonatuitionconnection.com. A new application must be completed each school year.
 
Arizona Leadership Foundation (ALF) - Please visit the ALF website at arizonaleader.org to review eligibility requirements.  If you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact Theresa Lehrling at accountmgmt@salpointe.org for details on how to apply. A new application must be completed each school year.

Students that have ordered club shirts are reminded to pick up their orders in the Spirit Store as soon as possible.
