Letter to Salpointe Families re Salpointe Fire - July 18, 2022

July 18, 2022

Dear Salpointe Families,

Last night we had a serious fire here at Salpointe Catholic. The Tucson Fire Department and Tucson Police Department responded quickly and valiantly. We do not yet know the cause. Thankfully, no one was injured. The fire started in the attic space above room 703 and spread throughout the 700 English wing, which suffered significant damage. Smoke and water damage are also present throughout the 300 and 400 wings. Fire safety assessment personnel and building safety experts are on site today. Please rest assured that we will not open the campus until it is deemed safe to do so.

Campus is closed until further notice and all activities are canceled. If students are participating in sports camps, they will be contacted by the coach as soon as alternate plans are determined. Please do not come to campus. We have not determined building and air quality safety. We will share information as we receive it.

As of today, we hope to start school as planned. Freshmen and transfer students will start on Monday, August 8 at 7:40 a.m. in Kalil Gym and all Lancers will start on Tuesday, August 9 at 8:10 a.m. We have no plans to switch to remote learning.

The Spirit Store is planning to open on August 1. Please check the website to determine store hours. If you have placed an online order, your items will be available for pickup starting Monday, August 1 at 10 a.m. Visit spiritstore.salpointe.org for more information.

This is a devastating and unexpected setback. However, we will come together as a Salpointe community and we will meet this challenge. Our students’ education and wellness are our top priorities and we look forward to another successful year at Salpointe.

We ask God’s blessings on Salpointe; He has led us for the past 72 years and we trust that He will continue to show us the way.

Thank you for your support and commitment to Salpointe Catholic.

With gratitude,
