Salpointe Teacher, Trained Facilitator for NSF-funded Professional Skills Workshops

In late July 2022, Ms. Amy Ball, a Salpointe STEM Teacher, traveled to Michigan State University to be trained as a facilitator for the CyberAmbassadors curriculum, which focuses on building Communications, Teamwork, and Leadership skills for STEM students and professionals. Ms. Ball was one of more than 80 diverse STEM professionals from academia and industry selected for facilitator training, which prepares participants to offer CyberAmbassadors programming for their own institutions and organizations. To prepare for the facilitator training program, Ms. Ball completed 9 hours of virtual training during Summer 2022 and earned recognition as a Certified CyberAmbassador; she then completed a two-day workshop at Michigan State University focusing on facilitating and adapting the curriculum for different audiences. Ms. Ball plans to bring the CyberAmbassadors training materials to Salpointe to help students build skills for succeeding in interdisciplinary teamwork.

The CyberAmbassadors program was developed with support from the National Science Foundation (Award #1730137) and includes more than 20 hours of curriculum materials that can be adapted to different audiences and formats. The curriculum has been designed and validated with more than 5,000 participants from around the world, and the facilitator training program was developed to expand access to this free professional skills training. CyberAmbassadors Facilitators are trained volunteers who organize and conduct workshops for their employers, universities, professional organizations, community groups, and other interested audiences. The CyberAmbassadors curriculum is also used in the Engineering Futures professional development program offered by Tau Beta Pi, which serves thousands of students and professionals annually.
