Salpointe Weekly Peek - September 30, 2022

Happy Friday, Lancers!

This week’s prayer is from Mrs. Urbanski's Sophomore Theology class:
Dear God, please give me strength when I am weak, Love when I feel forsaken, Courage when I am afraid, Wisdom when I feel foolish, Comfort when I am alone, Hope when I feel rejected and Peace when I am in turmoil. Amen. Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Pray for us.

Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA)- Information about expansion and universal option
On September 23, 2022, the Secretary of State’s Office notified the Department of Education that the universal expansion portion of H.B. 2853 did not take effect on September 24th because of the referendum process under the Arizona Constitution. For more information on this process, please see the Initiative and Referendum Guide or visit the Secretary of State’s website at Arizona Secretary of State (azsos.gov). Please note the Secretary of State’s Office has indicated that this process can take up to 35 business days per state statute.
At this time, all completed applications received under the "Universal" category will remain on hold until we receive official notice from the Secretary of State's Office.
Because of the current uncertainty around if and when Universal ESA will take effect, the Arizona Department of Education has developed the following plan. This plan will allow applicants to receive retroactive Quarter 1 funding if and when Universal ESA takes effect. To ensure you are eligible to receive Quarter 1 funding if and when Universal ESA takes effect, you must do all three of the following:  CLICK HERE to read more. Please visit https://www.azed.gov/esa  for more information.

Salpointe Recycle Drive
As part of Salpointe’s 4R (reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse) Care for Creation efforts, we are holding a recycle drive for items that cannot be easily recycled curbside. These items includes the following:
  • Paint (more than 1/3 can)
  • Batteries (rechargeable, small button, lithium, car) - please separate items
  • Electronic waste (computers, cables, printer cartridges) - no CRT monitors
Bring your hard to recycle items to the back side of the Science wing (600s) on Saturday, October 1, from 10:00 a.m.-noon. Enter through the Glenn gate. Salpointe will collect items and ensure they are properly recycled through the City of Tucson’s HHW program. If you are unable to bring items on October 1, we will also be collecting them ahead of time on Friday, September 30.

Estate Planning Seminar
What will your legacy be? Your will says a lot about your values, passions and hopes for the future. Legacy giving ensures that your values will live on long after your lifetime. The process is easier than it may seem and you don't have to be wealthy to leave an estate gift. Financial planner Nik Scherer and attorney Travis Tufts will share tips and answer your questions about leaving gifts from your estate.

Character Counts
Our focus this week was how choices strengthen character. On Wednesday, Rylen compared the idea of a child learning to walk with building character, taking little steps each day (Little Choices Build Character). On Thursday, Albert focused on the importance of choices being made in service to others with specific examples of how to put this into practice (Being Other-Centered).
