Salpointe Celebrates Another Banner Year

Salpointe Catholic High School
Dear Lancer Students, Parents, Alums and Friends,

Salpointe Catholic continues to be a high school of distinction due to the high achievement of our Lancer students. Congratulations are in order for so many individuals and groups, starting with the Class of 2017.

This group of 235 seniors has wowed us with their talent, their energy, their joie de vivre and their commitment to Lancer values. We are proud of their accomplishments here at Salpointe and know that they will embrace the challenge to excel at the next level. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the Class of 2017 has earned more than $24M in merit scholarships and were accepted to 190 of the finest colleges, universities and military academies. Twenty-eight students graduate as Salpointe Scholars with GPAs of 4.0 or higher; 19 will participate in athletics at the college level and three will enter college as National Hispanic Scholars. We wish the members of this special class every success at the next level of their educational pursuit.

Salpointe is grateful for the loyal and dedicated professional commitment from every member of our faculty and staff. These employees truly give their lives to this sacred place; they are mission driven and they exhibit the essence of what it means to be a Lancer. Several of our treasured colleagues will be retiring or making career moves at the end of the 16-17 school year and we wish each of them the very best in their next adventure: Anne Baffert, Tim Barry, Bill Calkins, Betty Dadante, Sally Dooley, Peggie Gessner, Kevin Russell, Mindae Russell, Paul Slade, Carlos Solorzano, Colleen Werbylo, Carol Williams, Brenda Wolpa. Look for a feature on many of these long-time Salpointe employees in the next issue of Salpointe Today which will be published this summer. As a result of these employee departures, Salpointe is hiring for a variety of faculty and staff positions. Check out employment opportunities at www.salpointe.org/employment and spread the word to qualified candidates.

Transitions are already taking place in the Advancement Department. We are excited to announce that Jennifer Harris has been named the Director of Advancement, replacing Mindae Russell ‘99 who is relocating to Denver with her family. We are pleased to introduce Kasey Barghout ‘11, who will replace the retiring Peggie Gessner, as our Alumni, Parent Relations and Events Manager. We extend a hearty welcome to Jen and Kasey!

We also extend gratitude to the Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation for once again supporting the Lancers. In 2016-2017, the SCEF supported excellence in education by providing $87,000 for three “nearly new” vans, new baseball bleachers and a state-of-the-art scoreboard for the football/soccer/lacrosse field. Salpointe could not be more grateful to President Pat Sniezek ’82 and the SCEF for their vision and support.

Sincerely, President Kay Sullivan
