Scholarship Helps Lancer Dream Big

Advancement Department
After the tragic passing of their son and brother, Graham ’95, in 2013, the Kraus-Sanders family created a scholarship at Salpointe in his name.
Graham spent his life enjoying and pursuing his interests in art, music, travel and food, and his family had a desire to honor that spirit. They wanted to help a student who had a strong desire to learn and achieve his or her goals.

Scholarship recipient Meghan Muldoon ’18 is laying the groundwork for an exciting academic and professional future. She’s a member of National Honor Society, Student Council (STUCO), Speech and Debate, a winner of the Salpointe Sophomore Kindness Award and has a 4.1 GPA. This is the third summer she’ll be interning at a law firm and she’s attending the Harvard Summer School program to study Philosophy and Law. In her free time, Meghan loves to read philosophy and salsa dance, a passion that started when her brother was a student at Salpointe and was a member of the Salsa Club on campus. She is the youngest instructor in the University of Arizona’s Ritmos Latinos Salsa Dance Club and she plans to study abroad in Spain while in college.

Meghan is grateful to Graham’s family for the opportunities that his scholarship makes possible for her. “Hearing about Graham was hard, but it’s so motivating that they pay it forward to help others with their education. It’s such a blessing to have this scholarship,” said Meghan, who will receive the Graham Kraus-Sanders Memorial Scholarship for the third time this coming year. Graham’s brother, Teague Sanders ’97, is happy to support Meghan’s education and says, “We want to create a legacy in memory of my brother to allow students like Meghan to attend a school like Salpointe. That’s the reward to us, allowing our gift to have a tangible impact on the community.”

Meghan stays in touch with Graham’s family by sending them notes throughout the year and keeping them up-to-date on her activities and achievements. A recent letter included photos and said, “I have been texting my friend Katherina from Germany for the past year. I finally got to meet her this spring. Katherina’s parents got permission for her to attend Salpointe for a day with me. It was fun showing her my life here in Tucson. Needless to say I had to show her how to salsa dance. Think of you often. I keep Graham in my prayers.”

Salpointe thanks the Kraus-Sanders family for their generosity and support of our students, and we congratulate Meghan on her achievements and bright future.
