Salpointe Catholic Welcomes New Freshmen, Faculty and Carmelite Interns

Salpointe Catholic High School

This week Salpointe Catholic High School welcomed 320 members of the Class of 2021 and 26 transfer students as the school kicked off its 67th year providing a Catholic, college-prep education to the diverse population of southern Arizona.
To accommodate the increasing size of our student population, now at approximately 1,200 students, Salpointe Catholic welcomed several new faculty and staff members to the Lancer family. These talented, highly educated individuals join the high-caliber professionals who have already dedicated themselves to the education of Salpointe students.

“Salpointe Catholic welcomes 1,200 Lancers as we launch our 67th year leading the way in secondary education and preparing our students to be tomorrow’s leaders. Our faculty, staff, students and alumni are called to be ‘the light of the world,’ to act with goodness, kindness, mercy, justice and respect for the dignity of all peoples. We take our mission very seriously,” said Kay Sullivan, president.

Salpointe Catholic is also proud to host two new Carmelite brothers on campus who, for the next two years, will work closely with our Campus Ministry Department and teach in our Theology Department. Br. Michael Joyce, O.Carm., and Br. Kevin Keller, O.Carm., join Salpointe Catholic after having recently started their Masters’ studies in Divinity at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and they continue their studies with online classes. Br. Michael and Br. Kevin live in Salpointe Catholic’s Carmelite monastery adjacent to the school.

“Both brothers are preparing to be ordained to the priesthood and their presence on our campus for two years is an important part of their total education,” said Sr. Helen Timothy, Principal. “I have no doubt that their enthusiasm and desire to be successful teachers will inspire and energize the faculty, staff and students with whom they work.”
