Get to Know Tuesday Thrift Shop Volunteers Rosemary Muldoon and Johndie Paul

Johndie Paul and Rosemary Muldoon have worked Tuesday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. at the Salpointe Thrift Shop together for the past 3 years. Rosemary recently interviewed Johndie to find out what keeps her coming back to volunteer.
When Rosemary asked Johndie what made her choose Salpointe Thrift Store as a place to volunteer she said she found herself at 79 years of age bored and wanting to get out of the house and meet people.

"Working at the Salpointe Thrift Store has created a network of friends, regular people that come into the store and a family atmosphere that I wanted at this time in my life. We see the children of Salpointe come in and it is a breath of fresh air to see their young, happy faces and know that our volunteer hours are for helping Salpointe Catholic High School. Three hours a week was perfect as it gets me out with people and I have worked retail store business most of my life so it was perfect for me to volunteer here," said Johndie.

Rosemary Muldoon decided to volunteer at Salpointe Thrift Store when her daughter was a freshman at Salpointe.

"I was already having Rotary meetings on Tuesday and I felt like I wanted to do more for the Salpointe community as it has been such a blessing to our family. Our son Lawrence graduated from Salpointe in 2013 and our daughter Meghan will be in the upcoming class of 2018. Working Salpointe Thrift Shop with Johndie Paul on Tuesday afternoons has been a delightful part of my week. Johndie is 79 years young! She comes into the store in high-heeled shoes dressed to kill as our day together is always a special time! Johndie is a good friend as I find people my age starting to act old, I spend a few hours with 79-year-old Johndie and with her delightful personality I feel young again. Giving three hours a week has been working well as our store manager, Sandra, is flexible with my schedule when I have to work real estate," said Rosemary.

Rosemary also travels with Salpointe’s Speech and Debate team as a Lincoln-Douglas Debate Judge. "I know these students implement their knowledge in debate and act upon it. They will be awesome future leaders in the corporations that hire them after college," she said.

Donations at the Thrift Shop are very low for this time of year. Please consider donating to Salpointe Thrift as you clean the house getting ready for the holiday season. Store hours are Monday to Saturday 10-4 p.m. and all proceeds from the store go to Salpointe Catholic High School. You can get a receipt for tax purposes for any donation. If you have furniture or large items just call the store and schedule a pick up at 520-327-5576. If you would like to volunteer at store call store manager Sandra Velasquez at 520-975-0467.
