Salpointe Catholic's Lenten Mission

Join the Salpointe community as we pursue our Lenten journey through the three practices of giving alms, fasting, and praying.
Alms: For decades, Salpointe has contributed to Catholic Relief Services through Operation Rice Bowl. Sr. Helen, Br. Mike, Br. Kevin, and Fr. Brian have agreed to be 'ice bucketed' if we raise $4,000 by March 9. Additionally, if at the end of Lent we raise $6,000, Br. Mike and Br. Kevin will 1-buzz their head, and if we raise $8,000, they will shave their heads shiny bald on Friday, April 13.

Fast: In addition to fasting on Ash Wednesday and Fridays from meat, as a community, we are fasting from grumbling. In the book St. Benedict's Tool Box there is an important comment:
"One of the most damaging things we can do is to murmur about one another, whether silently to ourselves or out loud to someone else..... Grumbling in our hearts separates us from others. Murmuring puts a chink in the wall between ourselves and God. It is destructive and destroys community."
St. Benedict's Tool Box recommends we replace our grumbling with the prayer of St. Francis, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace." This Lent we will lend ourselves to gratitude and purpose.

Pray: Prayer is our primary connection to God and we will be praying a multitude of ways.
  • Friday mornings walk the Stations of the Cross- we will meet at the first station at 7:30am
  • Use your Lenten prayer books throughout the school day
  • Visit the chapel with your class or on your own and use one of the prayer services available
The Stations of the Cross on campus were a gift from the Class of 2017. The creation of the lovely mosaics was directed by Jennifer Furrier. They are complete now, in time for Lent. There are multiple ways to interact with the Stations of the Cross:
