Lancers receive annual John Paul II Youth Leadership Awards

Each year the Diocese of Tucson recognizes teenagers who exemplify their faith through outstanding leadership.
The John Paul II Award is one of the highest levels of recognition the Diocese has for youth in our community. Award winners are selected either from their home parish or from their school.

Winners are selected in three areas: Liturgy and Worship, Catechesis and Evangelization, and Community Service and Social Justice.

Congratulations to Salpointe Catholic High School JPII Award winners for 2018:

Emily Ibarra '18
for Liturgy and Worship
J. Bill Rivera '18 for Catechesis and Evangelization
Meghan Muldoon '18 for Community Service and Social Justice

Lancers were also nominated by their parishes around Tucson. These JPII award winners include:

Anasofia Zavala '18 - St. Francis De Sales - Catechesis and Evangelization
Ana Maria Hidalgo '18 - St. Cyril of Alexandria - Catechesis and Evangelization
Russell Perez '18 - St. Cyril of Alexandria - Catechesis and Evangelization
Molly Stanford '19 - St. Odilia - Prayer and Worship

JPII awardees from around the diocese were honored by Bishop Weisenburger at a celebration of the Mass and an awards presentation ceremony at St. Augustine Cathedral on February 17th.

Bishop Weisenburger said, "It is so important for youth to be as immersed as much as possible in the faith. These awards recognize how well our teens respond as vital and active members of our Church in action." The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops encourages young people, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."

Congratulations Lancers!
