Walking In Mercy: 3rd Annual Kino Teens Summit

Kino Teens from six high schools around Arizona gathered for the 3rd annual Walking In Mercy Summit, which included student-led workshops, prayer, and advocacy activities defending the rights of our immigrant brothers and sisters. Approximately 100 teens attended the Summit.

"We are in awe of how these students are living out Pope Francis' four solidarity actions: welcome, protect, promote, integrate. We are excited to witness their continued activism and accompaniment of migrants and refugees."

Activites at the Summit included:

- Art project: Decorating seven crosses, to represent the more than 7000 who have died in the desert. Each participating school took a cross back to their schools to incorporate in school liturgies.

- Breakout sessions: The breakout sessions each unpacked one of Pope Francis’ words: Protect, Integrate, Promote, and Welcome.

- Immigration simulation: A reality check about why migrants must arrive to the Kino Border Initiative Comedor in Nogales, Sonora in the first place.

- Bishop Emeritus Kicanas joined the Summit for part of the duration.

- Fr. Sean Carrol, S.J. of KBI celebrated the opening prayer and closing mass.
