Dear Salpointe Parents and Guardians,
The Service Program at Salpointe is part of our holistic approach to education and reflects an important element within the Carmelite charisms. Jesus Christ calls us to serve just as he calls us to prayer and community.
As a reminder, all students are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service each year. Most students donate more than 10 hours of their time each year, but all students will be held accountable for completing at least 10 hours of community service annually.
Completing Service Hours
Service hours for each school year must be completed between June 1st-May 1st.
Students can complete service hours in a variety of ways, including:
Working with a local service organization (students will be able to find relevant
opportunities using the MobileServe app described below);
Working at different fundraisers, special programs, or assisting with maintenance in
support of activities at Catholic parishes and other church denominations (this
includes schools that may be part of the parish or church);
Serving the community as members of Salpointe clubs and athletic teams;
Completing service hours as part of their membership in school organizations that
require service hours (e.g. National Honor Society Salpointe or Ambassador
Leaders);
Creating new service projects (individually or with a group) that address specific
community needs. Students should submit plans for new service projects to Campus
Ministry so that they can be approved in advance.
There are many opportunities for independent service hours through MobileServe. Please note: students will complete these hours independently, without Salpointe supervision.
Volunteer service at Salpointe Catholic is aligned with the Church’s teaching on social justice and intended to support individuals and groups most in need. Accordingly, students will not receive credit toward their annual requirement for chores they are required to do at home or for work they do on behalf of for-profit businesses.
Submitting and Verifying Service Hours
We are moving from the x2VOL service platform for the 2025-2026 school year and will be using a platform called MobileServe moving forward. Each student already has a MobileServe account that they can claim by logging in with their Salpointe email address.
All service hours must be submitted via the MobileServe app or website within 30 days of the service activity’s completion. Students will need to include:
a.) the date of service
b.) the name of the service organization
c.) a description of the project (via the Tell Your Story prompt)
d.) a brief spiritual reflection and relevant verse from Scripture
Students will also need to include the name and email address of the activity’s supervisor. The supervisor/email must be aligned with a verifiable non-profit organization, school or church. A verification email will be sent to the supervisor so that they can sign off on the completed hours.
Service Transcripts
College admissions officers agree that community service demonstrates self-motivation, leadership skills, an ability to collaborate with others, and a balance between school and life outside of the classroom. A record of completed community service hours can have a tangibly positive impact as students apply to colleges and pursue other academic and professional opportunities upon graduation.
Via MobileServe, students will have access to (and can download) a permanent transcript of service hours they have completed while at Salpointe. This transcript can be submitted with college applications.
If you have any questions or would like further assistance, please reach out at service@salpointe.org.
In Christ,
Chris Ptak
