Kairos

Kairos is a beginning, a Christian awakening, an opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ.

Kairos Retreats

Kairos, meaning “God’s Time” in Greek, is a beginning, a Christian awakening, an opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ. During their three and half-day experience, students reflect upon their relationship with God, family and friends. The Kairos retreat is open to juniors during spring semester and seniors during fall semester. All students are highly encouraged to take advantage of this scripture-based, growth experience.

How to Sign Up

As Kairos retreats open for registration, sign up forms will be posted on this page. Retreat spots are first-come, first-served, based on the date of online registration and when the signed permission slips are received in Campus Ministry. The completed, signed permission slip and academic contract signed by all of your teachers are required in order to attend a retreat. Questions? Email Phil Becker in Campus Ministry at pbecker@salpointe.org. You can also come to the Campus Ministry office (Room 602) Monday-Friday between 7:30am and 3:30pm.

History of Kairos

The Kairos retreat program was developed in 1965 in the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York. It is modeled after the Cursillo Retreat (an adult retreat movement) and has been adapted for teenagers.

In December 1975, Fr. Bob Colaresi, O.Carm., from Joliet Catholic High School further developed the retreat. In the Spring of 1978, a group of seniors from Salpointe traveled to Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, CA in order to develop a Kairos retreat. They and volunteers from Crespi then offered the retreat to seniors at Salpointe in August of 1978.
