Stevens Gallery, in collaboration with the Southern Arizona Friends of Jung, is proud to present Dreams, Deities and Archetypes, an immersive art exhibition inspired by Carl Jung’s seminal work, The Red Book. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Saturday, February 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stevens Gallery on the Salpointe Catholic High School campus, 1545 E. Copper Street, and will remain on view through April 21. The opening reception will include a performance by Nanette Robinson & ZUZI! Dance at 7:00 p.m.
This exhibition features paintings and sculptures by 20 local and regional artists, each responding to Jung’s exploration of dreams, visions, and the unconscious. A copy of The Red Book is included in the exhibition, underscoring its role as the foundation of Jung’s life’s work and his belief that visionary art expresses both the unconscious mind and universal human experience.
Jung’s ideas inform the themes of the exhibition, including the process of individuation (the integration of the conscious and unconscious), archetypes as universal symbolic figures, myth and symbol as expressions of psychic reality, and active imagination, which involves intentionally engaging with images from the inner world. Together, these works invite viewers to reflect on shared human experiences through mythic, symbolic, and visionary imagery.
As Gallery Director and Salpointe Fine Arts faculty member, Betina Fink brings together students, community members, and regional artists by curating a wide range of thought-provoking exhibitions that showcase the unique artistic expressions found within the cultural community.
