Weekly Peek – February 6, 2026

Weekly Prayer

In celebration of National World Marriage Day on February 8, we offer this verse from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Amen. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us.

At 6:00 p.m.How Does AI Work? offers a simple, easy-to-understand explanation of how AI actually functions—demystifying the technology and highlighting both its possibilities and limitations.
At 7:00 p.m.What Is a Human Worth When Machines Get Smart? invites parents to reflect on human value in an age of intelligent machines and how AI can free us to focus on our highest intellectual and human potential.
Parents are welcome to attend either session or stay for both. Please reach out if you have any questions.

The Spanish Honor Society will take eight students on an educational visit to Kino Border Initiative, where they will witness and participate in important outreach. In preparation, Profe Owens and Student Services are collecting gently used or new jackets, sweaters, backpacks, and jeans (size 34 and smaller), as well as winter clothing for children. Donations may be dropped off in Room 312 or at Student Services and will be accepted through February 10. Thank you to our Salpointe community for your continued generosity.
Poetry Out Loud Competition
Congratulations to the competitors and winners of our 2026 School-Wide Poetry Out Loud Competition.
Poetry Out Loud is a nationwide competition that invites high school students to memorize and recite poems from a curated anthology. Contestants are evaluated based on a standardized rubric that measures physical presence, voice and articulation, interpretation, and overall understanding of the poem.
We held our school-wide competition on Friday, January 30, with 24 students advancing after winning their classroom rounds. Each participant delivered an impressive performance. Janice Moreno ’26 earned second runner up, and Mya Divens ’26 was named first runner-up. Our overall winner, Lia Tellez-McCovey ’26, is advancing to the Southern Arizona Regional Semi-Final.
Lia will compete on February 14 from 1-3 p.m. at the University of Arizona Poetry Center. We invite our community to come out and support her as she represents Salpointe in this prestigious competition. View flyer here.
Photography Equipment Donation Request
Salpointe’s photography program is seeking donations of digital or mirrorless cameras and lenses. With more students than available equipment, your donated camera or lens can make a meaningful difference by giving students hands-on access to real photography tools. If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Rashka at krashka@salpointe.org. Thank you for your support!
