A Quiet Act of Kindness Becomes a Community Tribute

In December, the Salpointe community was proud to see the quiet kindness of alum Nicholas DeGennaro ’77 shine through. Nick was Darrell Lee Arelt’s landlord, and when the Vietnam veteran passed away with no known family, Nick and his wife stepped in to ensure he would not be laid to rest alone. What began as a simple act of compassion grew into a powerful community tribute, bringing veterans and neighbors together to honor a life of service. A meaningful reminder that leadership, dignity, and care for others never fade.
