Parent Forum: October 29

October 14, 2025
Dear Salpointe Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to host our second Parent Forum of the year on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Foundation Hall, and we hope you will join us. The evening’s topic, Protect Young Eyes, promises to be both engaging and relevant to parents.
The second forum will explore the connection between mental health and tech. Recent research indicates that smartphone and social media use, especially before age 13, is linked to lower mental health scores and increased risks of emotional and behavioral problems. The research highlights concerns about cyberbullying, poor family relationships, and disrupted sleep, which can negatively impact a child’s mental well-being.
In this 90-minute session, you’ll learn:

● The three functional areas of the human brain.
● Why Snapchat is a turbo-charged, neurological beast.
● Why 72% of teens are already using AI companions (and what that means for your family).
● How to correct out-of-control tech use.
● Why every home needs 5 layers of protection in the AI Age.

As a reminder, all parents are required to attend at least one Parent Forum each year in order for your student to participate in school dances later in the year. We have two upcoming forums scheduled this semester: October 29 and November 19.
As we continue to explore ways to partner with our parents in educating our young people, we believe these newly revived forums will be a valuable resource for our entire community.
Sincerely,
Larry Chilgreen
Director of Counseling
