'59 Alumna Named to Sahuarita Hall of Fame

Sahuarita Unified School District
J. Elaine Hall '59, known at Salpointe as Joyce Sieh, was inducted into the Sahuarita Unified School District Hall of Fame.
Elaine Hall was born and raised in Tucson. After graduating from Salpointe in 1959, she received her Associate's Degree from Pima Community College. Elaine first became an advocate for public education when her two children entered school in the late 1960s. Her initial involvement was as a classroom volunteer and a member of the Sahuarita Parent Teacher Club. She began communicating with State Representatives on a regular basis to advocate for children's education.

After retiring from the position of Principal's Secretary at Sahuarita High School, Elaine first ran for the Sahuarita Unified School District Governing Board in 2000. She realized that the Sahuarita School District was growing at a rapid pace and she recognized, as a former employee of the district and a long-term resident, she might be in a unique position to help. Elaine served on the School Board for 17 consecutive years.

Elaine's commitment to Sahuarita's students, faculty, and staff did not end at SUSD's school boundaries. She pursued opportunities at a state level to strive for a better future for all. Elaine stepped up and became a member of the Arizona School Boards Association's Board of Directors, serving seven years before becoming President of ASBA in 2014. As President of ASBA, Elaine managed collaborative boards from across the state - representing the community of Sahuarita. She helped Sahuarita Unified School District become a familiar name. Elaine chose a leadership theme of "Our Students - Our Future" for her ASBA presidential theme, a theme she has continued to live.

She continues to volunteer at the schools and encourages young adults to become not only active voters but also to run for office and to work on grassroots initiatives.

"I give great credit to Salpointe for the lessons learned while I was a student there," Elaine said, "not only scholastic but life lessons as well."

Congratulations, Elaine!
