Dr. Laura Scaramella '84 Named Director of UA's Norton School of Family & Consumer Sciences

Dr. Laura Scaramella (Salpointe Class of 1984) comes to the University of Arizona's Norton School of Family & Consumer Sciences with a wealth of experience in adaptive leadership in some of the most challenging academic circumstances imaginable.

She understands extremely well the Norton School’s heritage, and she shares with me and our associate deans our very strong motivation to continue our research strengths in Family Studies and Human Development and develop an internationally recognized research program in Consumer Sciences areas of the future. Laura is highly motivated to ensure more students benefit from the Norton School’s valuable degrees that have high employability.

The John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences in the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences prepares the next generation to solve the global challenges of individuals, communities and the changing marketplace. Known for our top-tier research and teaching style, we challenge students to expand their critical thinking skills to make informed decisions.

Dr. Scaramella’s research has been funded through grants from the National Institutes of Mental Health, the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

She has received outstanding alumni awards from the University of Arizona and Salpointe Catholic High School. Her greatest achievement to date is "successfully" navigating her daughters' transition from infancy to preschool with her husband.
