109 Humanities Students Visit Mission San Xavier

The junior Humanities students and teachers visited Mission San Xavier del Bac for their annual service project and field trip. Students and faculty spent November 15 at the Mission as part of the Humanities signature program offered at Salpointe Catholic.

The group of 109 students spent the morning cleaning up the large playground and sports fields at the San Xavier Mission School. To reduce the environmental impact this year, the Humanities Department integrated sustainable measures including using compostable garbage bags and composting the weeds and tree trimmings.

Father Manu Franco-Gomez, O.Carm. then celebrated Mass with the Humanities students in the Mission church.

The afternoon was spent learning about the history, theology, art and architecture of the Mission, as well as the oral tradition and culture of the Tohono O'odham Nation.

This cornerstone excursion to the Mission is one of the highlights of the junior Humanities Program. This local gem ties together all areas of the Humanities into one holistic experience.
