General Announcements

Attention Lancer Parents!
Salpointe is creating our 2024-2029 Strategic Plan and we'd like your input as we envision the future. If you are interested in attending either April 8 or April 10 from 5:00-6:30 p.m., please fill out this form. Contact Jennifer Harris, Director of Advancement, at jharris@salpointe.org with any questions.
 
Care for Creation Recycle Drive
Salpointe will be hosting its 2nd annual Care for Creation drive. This year's event will include collection of recyclables that can not be disposed of curbside AND care for our animal friends.
 
On Saturday, March 16, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, bring in old paint (⅓ can or more), batteries (rechargeable, Alkaline, small button, lithium) and e-waste (computers, cell phones, cables, etc.-no CRT screen). Also, bring in dog/cat food and used blankets or towels for animals awaiting homes at Pima Animal Care Center. Free collars and engraved tags will be available to take home for your pets.
 
Collection will take place on the north side of the Science wing. Enter through the Glenn St. Entrance. For more information, contact greenlancer@salpointe.org.
 
Upcoming College Visits
College admissions reps visit our campus throughout the year to meet with Salpointe students. It is a great opportunity for students to learn about a variety of colleges. Register for an upcoming visit via Scoir or contact Mrs. McCall.

African American Heritage Day
On Friday February 16th, 12 of our Salpointe Lancers, accompanied by Mrs. Gómez, attended African American Heritage Day at Pima College West. The day was enjoyed by all those attending.
 
ZAPS SAT
Juniors/Sophomores: Salpointe is partnering with Doorway to College to bring you ZAPS, SAT Test Prep. Don't miss this opportunity to score higher on the SAT. ZAPS is coming Saturday, March 16th from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in our Click Family Library. If interested, please contact Mrs. Lupita Gómez, Junior Class Counselor at lgomez@salpointe.org.

Seniors

Seniors received graduation details this week during Wednesday's community period. Please remember to 1) mark your acceptances, denials and wait-list decisions in Scoir, and 2) send a copy of college decisions and academic scholarships to college@salpointe.org.
 
Each year we compile a list of colleges offering acceptance and scholarship from those students who have sent us college decision letters and we track this information closely. For example, see the Class of 2023 College Acceptances.

Juniors

Get Out of Town Workshop
Each year we host a workshop for students who are interested in applying out of the state for college, called the Get Out of Town Workshop. The following spring workshop dates are available: Saturday, March 16th at 3:00 p.m., Foundation Hall, or Saturday, April 13th at 3:00 p.m. (Virtual). Please register to attend.
 
Kickstart U College Application Workshops
Juniors and Parents: Do you know about the KickStart U College Application Workshop? Give your Lancer a head start on their college applications and personal statements this summer! KickStart U will once again hold its College Application and Essay Workshop at Salpointe this summer.
 
Kickstart U is an impactful program designed by Salpointe teacher Tim Evans and former Salpointe college counselor Lynn Ossowski to help students tell their unique stories to colleges. Students benefit from individualized writing instruction and application coaching in an enthusiastic environment that promotes engagement, reflection and creativity. The 4-day workshop will give students a head-start on the application process so they can focus on and enjoy their senior year. Students will work on writing college application essays, developing a college list and completing their Senior Bragsheet. Workshop dates are May 28-31 and July 22-25. Sophomores

Sophomore College Planning
Sophomores met with Mrs. Markle and Mrs. McCall to start laying the groundwork for a successful college planning process. They went over four key considerations and invited students to the college counseling platform called Scoir. Please review the Soph College Planning slides with your student.

Financial Aid

IBE Tax Credit Presentation
Tuesday, March 12, 2024 | 6:00 p.m.
Please join us in the Click Family Library for a presentation on Arizona Tax Credits given by the Institute for Better Education (IBE). IBE will provide helpful information on how to utilize the Arizona State Tax Credit Program to fund your student's tuition here at Salpointe. This presentation is open to all parents and/or any potential Tax Credit Donors looking for more information. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fine Arts

Stories that Soar! High!
Ever wonder what would happen if your stories came to life? Then you won’t want to miss Stories That Soar High!, a collection of stories brought to the stage by our Advanced Drama class, written by students from Saint Joseph’s and Saints Peter and Paul. Come see the majestic Magic Box on Friday, March 15th at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 online and available at salpointeproductions.org, as well as at the door. Salpointe students get in free with a student ID. Bring your siblings too! Elementary school students get in free as well. We hope to see you there!

Spirit Store

Have a birthday or celebration coming up? Spirit Store Gift Cards are available and make great gifts! If you have a Gift Card from last year or older, please be sure to redeem your balance by the end of this month.
 
Students that have ordered team or club shirts are reminded to pick up their orders in the Spirit Store as soon as possible.
 
The Spirit Store will be closed March 25th -April 1st for Spring/Easter Break.

Early Dismissal/Leaving Campus
Attendance Line number is 520-327-1990.
Please be sure to give at least a two hour notice for your request to be processed. All early dismissal requests are retrieved from voicemail. We do not have an intercom system, we have TAs taking passes to class to get students dismissed.
 
Casa Alitas Drive and Service Hours
The Spanish Honor Society is working with Casa Alitas to help political asylum seekers and refugees from all over the world. We are collecting gently used winter clothes, shoes and backpacks. As Bishop Edward Weisenburger says: "Casa Alitas' migrant-aid effort, through Catholic Community Services, is an embodiment of the Gospel." We are moved to witness the gratitude of the migrant families, who often arrive at Casa Alitas having walked through the soles of their shoes. We will be taking donations until the end of the school year. Additionally, if any Salpointe student is looking to complete their volunteer hours, they are welcome to join us every Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon. Prayer Book
In celebration of Salpointe's 75th Anniversary next year, the school is publishing a prayer book. We invite all students and parents to submit prayers that are special to them or create their own. Please send prayers and any questions to prayerbook@salpointe.org
 
Junior League Cinderella's Closet
Junior League of Tucson is hosting Project Cinderella's Closet on Saturday, March 23, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at 2099 E. River Rd. This year, they are also open by appointment from Monday, March 18-Friday, March 22. For a weekday appointment, please contact cinderellascloset@juniorleagueoftucson.org. Any high school student who is in need of a gown, accessories, jewelry, shoes etc. for prom is welcome to browse through their inventory of previously owned and donated items. It is FREE and the student may select whatever they choose. This is a fantastic opportunity to select a beautiful gown, shoes and all of the accessories free of charge. 
 
Salpointe Thrift Shop
