Kino Teens Continue to Service and Support Border Initiatives

On September 18, eight Kino Teens went to serve at the Comedor in Nogales.
The Teens served breakfast and listened to the stories of the migrants. After working in Nogales, Sonora the Salpointe Kino Teens were invited to lunch with the Lourdes Catholic High School Kino Teens. The two groups prayed together, ate together, and made connections.

The Kino Teens Club has skyrocketed with attendance since last year. This year we have 135+ members! Kino Teens have a lot of exciting events planned for this year that we are ready to begin such as trips to the Nogales Kino Border Initiative Comedor, Naturalization Ceremony, Operation Streamline, and much more. We are open to new members who are interested to join. Want to know more about the club and what we advocate? See Mrs. Harrington in room 312, Mrs. McGarey-Vasey in room 409, or our president, Humberto Monteverde.

The Salpointe Kino Teens continue to work with the Kino Border Initiative in providing for the basic human needs of migrants and refugees, and in education about and advocacy for migrants and immigration reform. Serving at the KBI Comedor provides 7-8 students the real-life experience of serving the most vulnerable, hearing the stories of the migrants, and practicing the works of mercy. These are explicit practices of Carmelite charism and Catholic social teaching. The powerful experience of humble service to those who are vulnerable (and sometimes victimized) becomes a transformative and empowering catalyst for our students. They see the face of Christ in a deeper way and are resolved to build a more just and humane social response to the reality of migrant/refugee issues. The experience leads to a renewed commitment to learning about the pathways of advocacy that our young people can undertake to address these humanitarian crises.
